BENADIRI CONTRIBUTION TO SOMALI CULTURE
First of all I will admit ignorance and willing to be corrected and educated on this matter.
when I say Benadiri I do not mean the original owners and builders of the city or the inhabitants of the region only. I am not even sure what I mean. Is it Gibilcad, Reer Xamar, Cadcad, Shaanshi? Carab?
And how about Tunnis, Jiidows and others who `look' pure maintsream Somali(ie tall, skinny with bad attitude and serious halitosis) but who at least have an ingrained urbane culture? What about those Somalis with reer `xabash' labels who are more part of the cities of Mog and barawe and Merca more than any other socoto Somali?
But I am thinking cultural contributionof that complex group identifiable only by NOT being mainstream nomadic Somali . One is of course outstanding and unique to them: cities of the South. They built Mog and Barawe and Merca. I am not sure who built Kismayo. This means everything urban and modern about Somalia, at least southern Somalia is entirely theirs: architecture, textiles, writing, museums, boat-building, trade.
But how about other cultural activities? There is a whole Somali Music genre called Benadiri. Sadly most people know the cheesily bollywoodised version of it but they dont know about the only Somali Opera ever produced was a Benadiri work. And how about Umar shoolli and Ahmed Naji Sacad and the anonoymous playwrights who composed classics like the ancient "Baddaa doon baa mareysoo" (no kids it wasnt a sulfa original) and the modern "Aw geeddi Shaamboo"?
Please tell me more about this of you know. If you dont go and make tea for mum and learn and stay away.

Galool, Wasn't the blind man the first guitar player in Somalia. His name I believe is Axmaday Abuubakar.
These people are very civilized and mostly business-oriented families. They do business as a family through vocational skills .
If you have been to Brava or Merka, these cities are so beautiful. i read somewhere that Merka once had more populations than Hargeisa in 1930. Walaahi Bilaahi.
It was still a large city even during the late 80s. Every damn place these people settle are urbanized with high towers built 100 years ago. What can I say, Reer Xamar have become victims to Hawiye savages in the 90s, and hostages in the late 90s and early 2000 even now.

reer-xamar ain't even more than 100 thousand so how can they build all those great somali cities? what are u naive?
they weren't involved in the political, sociological sphere--they have only been in the small business sector.
reer-xamar contributed to the music, riwayada and work as tailors or chefs.

We are being silly arent we? I mean not only the 100,000 number( I will say easily 1 million) but the idea they didnt build those great Somali cities.
Lets take Mog. During independence 1960 hardly any `mainstream' Somali ie Daarood, Hawiye, Isaq and reer Baydahabood even lived in the old city. It was exclusively occuppied by `reer xamar'.
No further comment necessary.

You are right, there was a great deal of contribution by those Gibil cad ppl...eventhough some of them were racists..just like any other somali qabil mind you.
My favorites when it comes to fanaaniin are Axmed Rabsha, Awees Geedow and Aweis Qamiis...and the women like Fadumo Qasim and Casha Cabdow.

You are right about the picture, it is Xamar and the people are lamo goodle, but did you asked yourself how they ended up to be there?
They came from beyong Balcad and Jowhar to sell milk, sorghum and buy clothes, beads, mirrors and miscalleneous brick-a-bracks from the reer xamar. But the numbers you put here is outrageously out of proportion

I 100% agree that the Reer Xamars build those cities!
These Cad cads were part of the buildings of Somalia but never in the destruction
Thats a fact....I think Walahi in the future one of them should run for the president of Somalia...I think he would make a great one
What is Gibil Cad....is that also another qabiil?
