"yawle is kinda right...a lot of Awdal area was controlled by the Turks until the British came from Egypt..."

It is not just Awdal. It was from Waqdariya in Sanaag to Zaylac in Awdal.

Zaylac was the capital from 13 Century to 16 Century. And then it was moved to Berbera where the Ottoman empire built the greatest buildings including the still in use old Ottoman Market and Mosque. They also built the accient Roman Technolgy water-system which naturally brings water from the highlands of Sheekh to Berbera's water reservior.
i knew they were atleast towards berbera cause the architecture is very turkish-ottoman like

didnt know it was all the way to sanaag though, good info

and goljano its about the ottoman and their rule over the area we know as kosovo and they reached all the way down to somaal

btw

lots of people were victims to MSB's government, not only people in somaliland

Lets be happy for our Albanian brothers in Kosovo who are finally getting away from the savages the Serbs are.

As for the influence of Turkish in somalia it is very evident today especially in Saylac which i believe has the largest people who trace their ancestory community in somalia. There is alot of people who have Turkish Blood in them even in Djibouti and among them is me. Also My first somali crush is a Somali-Turkish gurl i met this past summer.LOL

100 percent positive. There were too many Turkish somali interbreeding and you can find lots of them today in Saylac.

Good for the Kosovans, they been down too long

Somalilanders shouldnt get excited for their own recognition tho cuz Kosovo has a better reason than "ummm i dunno, just because"...watever happened, happened in the past but at the end of the day, we're still the same people with the same language, the same culture and the same religion...so unless that changes, we're all gonna be from Somalia

It is only a Declaration of Independence, not the birth of new state.

At the end of the day my friend, a person killed or wounded or a city destroyed is the same if it were done by Serbs to Prestina or the Siyad Barre to Hargeisa. Civilwar or instability has no "same religion, same culture" or that crab. If war is going to happen, then there needs to be a solution to prevent it. It is choosing either war or peace.

The non-recognition of Somaliland is a recipe for future instability and continous civilwar in that part of the world. If Siyad Barre once thought that the Bullet he fired on Hargeisa wasn't going to burn down his hometown in Garboharry, he found out the hard way.

Hence, the recogntion of Somaliland is choosing a long lasting peace.

It seems worth pointing out here that the person most responsible for NATO intervention in Serbia-Croatia-Kosovo-Albania was Tom Lantos, Chairman of the Foreign Relations committee in the House, who died a few weeks ago. He was also the American most influential in trying to get UN Peacekeepers into Darfur.

Not many were aware,, me included until I read his obituary, that he was a Haulocaust survivor and a Hungarian Jew.
