A/W,

Nimankaas aad ka dhalatay!! But that is the past let us talk about the future of Somalia...

Trust me ilaa uu Sacad ku guuleysto Madaxweyne there is no peace in Somalia...Period...

When Dr. Galayr...endorsed Abdiqaasim, your people came to Dr. Galaydh and asked him why he did not endorse adeer Addow? Dr. Galaydh answered" You guys didn't come and negotiated with me the Cayr did, so I endorsed them"

Your people answerd " Don't worry we send a word to Mogadisho, the gov't won't succeed...

Again when Addow didn't get the election, the same message was sent...

So I think if we want peace in that country we should all endorse Addow or any other Sacad candidate!!!
"What Created Rebel Movements In Somalia in the 1980s?"

Greed & confused priorities.

Is it a coincidence that most of the rebel movements were either created in Ethiopia or received support from Ethiopia? What about the leaders of such movements? They were unfit to rule anyone and had absolutely no comprehensive plan of properly ruling the country. Their primary & only goal: To remove Siyad Bare at any cost. Once that finally happened in 1991, the USC collapsed on its face due to hypocrisy, greed, injustice and lack of a plan.
Koronto you are wrong because you think that the somali movement in somalia was USC and nobody else. The two major different movements that over through the old regime USC and SNM one was successful and the other not.Its not faire that you highlight the unsucessfull movement eachtime to further your arguement.

My question to those who think that the SNM was a falure is,how was it a falure.I think it has been very successful it acheived its goal and rebuilt what it was destroyed in the war. When you compare that to what treatment we recieved from the old government you cant honestly say you were better off. From a Darods point point few or even some Hawyie maybe they were better of before the wars.

If the intentions of those rebel movements were sincere, they would've had a constructive plan of ruling the country & we would all be back home. Isn't it funny that Siyad Bare & Mengistu were both overthrown around the same time, Ethiopia bounced right back, while Somalia fell apart?

Koronto:

Mengistu boarded a plane and left Ethiopia & Addis Ababa intact.

Barre fought tooth and nail for Xamar and even when beat, he refused to go into exile but set up shop in Gedo to plan his 1992 comeback.

Mengistu was the wiser leader.

Kambuli,

Leave your abtiyaal alone.

Btw, Abdullahi Caddow is no genuine Sacad & deserved to lose. I was against him in 1989 and wished he was arrested and hung

koronto your missing the point these rebel movement were serving the needs of disfranchised groups, and not all somalis. So the SNM accomplished its goal and its aim was Isaaq liberation. That part of the country it held is peacefull and did not attack anyone outside its borders for reprisal and revenge. It could not acheive total domination of all somali and hence why were it ruled is peaceful, but you cant hold them responsibal for areas outside its their control. The current problem of somali and somalilands succestion movement is down to old guards from the old MSB regime.

AW,

After Mengistu was ousted, Tigres did not wage an ethnic cleansing campaign against Amharas, they did not go on a looting rampage of their country, they protected the lives & properties of Amharas to the point; they sent all Amhara soldiers to their regions rather than jailing or killing them.

Why couldn't the USC do the same?

Patriot,

You are right.

Mengistu was a Wadani while Barre was only in it for his own neck

Mengistu was not a wadani
The West gave him two options.
1.Fight and loose or Flee with the Entire gold of the national reserve.

Siad Barre (ilaahay hau naxariisto) was a dictator. No Sweat.

However, under Siad there was peace, prosperity, free education, free health care, burgeoning civil society, immense development, and a promising future.

What created rebebl movements?

Few opportunistic slime-balls who were Menguste's girls.

Who were the cheif rebel leaders?

Abdullahi Yusuf and Caydiid.

Caydiid is a genocidal maniac whose name equals infamy around the world for what he did to Darood people in Mogadishu and Abdullahi Yusuf is the man that Abdiwahab incidentally repeats with loathe every second of the day for what he is doing to Hawiye people in Mogadishu now.

Even so, Siad left a functioning capital with intact infrastructure.

The question is not WHAT created the rebel movements, the question is WHAT did the rebel groups accomplish?

18 years of anarchy. Of Pillaging. Rape. Massacre. Wholesale destruction of life, liberty, and property.

What the rebel movements did afterwards should tell us why they rose.

Movements led by few slime-balls whose ideology was "either I rule, or no one rules".

Was Siad barre the man who forced Aydiid to denounce the naming of Ali Mahdi as president?

Was Siad Barre the man who forced Aydiid to destroy the city and start the 4 months war in Mogadishu because he did not get the presidential position?

Was Siad Barre the man who forced Yusuf to call in Ethiopia for muscle? Was Siad the man who forced Yusuf to re-obliterate Mogadishu and send 400,000 packing into despair and squalor in couple months?

Rich wallahi.
