Re: Let Us Pray for Rain in Somalia
Praying is not the solution, fact is Somalia have lost 90% of its forest and trees, Somalia no longer can support over 20,000,000 animals and a 90% population that uses chorcals for fule. Remember since the Arab embargo the number of stocks tripled in millions.
From now on we will continue to suffer sever droughts and massive floods for years to come unless somalia is stop using cutting the little trees that left.
You can't cut trees and have over 2000 chorcal companies and then say oh dear we are in a drought and pray.
Somalia needs the following:
1- 60% reduction of all livestock.
2- complete ban on all chorcal export.
3- massive reforestations (planting of trees on average 4000 a month) ,bringing back the extinct somali acacia trees , Qudhac, Meygaag, Damal, Galool , the trees that sheltered grass and kept soil in place regulating rain.
Thats what we need , not parying for rain , even when rain comes its swift and terrential and its hard on both pepoe , land and animals and sweeps the little top good soil to the sea and in no time drought is back with less good soil all over again and the cycle continues.

Why do southern Somalis die in masses whenever abaar hits
But Northern Somalis are better equipped and prepared and never die during droughts

Because nothing grows in the North to begin with. No crops that die or harvests that suffer.

Actually, Northerners have a very effective system for the distribution of food and never die of hunger...And they use irrigation instead of hoping for rainfall
2 months no rain in south Somalia and 100,000's die

Re: Let Us Pray for Rain in Somalia
Good example of how deforestations can cause havoc is to look at nation of Haiti. In Haiti rains and flooding have devastated most of the country. Widespread deforestation mean even moderate rains can cause devastation because of decades of deforestations selling cheap charcoal to their neighbors. Sadly many people might not consider the possible consequences of deforestation seriously, and since there is no cure for deforestation, the only way to reverse the problem is to hold off further cutting of the trees and to start reforestation.X.Playa wrote: ....Thats what we need , not parying for rain , even when rain comes its swift and terrential and its hard on both pepoe , land and animals and sweeps the little top good soil to the sea and in no time drought is back with less good soil all over again and the cycle continues.
