That's correct. He was part of al-itixaad in the early 90s, but he was always based in Jubba region. Then after al-itixad was destroyed, he focused on his own group aka mucaskar Raskambooni. Even after 9/11, the U.S. administration were tempted to go after him and others in Somalia, I remember watching a documentary about that years ago. And he later became a member of the Shura council of the ICU in 2006, even coming to Xamar to help with the ousting of the warlords in the summer of 2006. Along with Daahir Aweys, he was active in these religious groups from early on.

From what I heard he was always wadaad, even when he was young. My father knew him when they were both in the military together, he told us he always prayed the 5 salahs. His real name is Xassan C/llaahi Xirsi, Turki is just a nickname. He was a colonel in the former army and Isaaqs hate him because they claim he was part of the military leadership that waged war against their regions in the 80s. After the civil war, he retreated to the Jubba region and many times tried to set-up administration in Ogadenia, but has had some differences with the ONLF. He wants to establish a Shari'ah system there, but the ONLF leadership is not in agreement with him. I don't know much about his brother.

Odeyga is originally from Ogadenia, but served in the Somali military. I know Isaaqa love to taint his name by accusing him of commiting "Faqash genocide" but he did serve in the military, my father served with him sxb.
