Clan is simply a grouping of people who banded together.

The whole Hawiye, Darood, Dir groupings were really hyped over the last 50 years especially after independence. Before the war, if I was asked who I was I'd say Sacad before being told warya start from the top: Hawiye, HG etc.

as for the topic, i always new we were all related one way or the other but is this at odds with clan system ? nope, clan system or Qabiil is exactly what tells us that we are related, this genetics just confirms it. This might have been doubted by self haters like Dawwa and Oldenglish who actually believed they were arab and the other group of USC lovers who believed they were Bantu fighting arab

as for the general Somali population we all know the fact that we are all Somali and related.

Clan structure tells something important like our roots and i don't believe all somalis are related, they are people who came together to form a race, that is why you see a jarere somali , a brown somali , a cadcad somali different flavours just like brazil.
