The most powerful act of Mengistu was to take the Ethiopian Airlines flight into exile when he saw defeat looming.

It is ironic that every single country in the Horn except Somalia owes President Siyaad for their governments.

Meles Zenewi, Isias Afeworki, and Ismacil Geele of Djiboui and his uncle before Hassan Guled Abtidoon all owe Siyaad for their positions and if Abdiqasim Salad Hassan and his 2000 Somali TFG had worked, he also would join the rest as proteges of Siyaad in power.

Qoraxeey,

Mengistu did more for Ethiopia:

1. Got USSR support for his nation which allowed him to modernize his nation rapidly and kept it even though the USSR supported MSB before him

2. Got the USSR, Cubans, South Yemenis, Libyans to help defeat Somalia in a stupid war waged by MSB's Somalia. The most amazing part was that he even convinced the Americans, who were supposed to be MSB's allies, not to help Somalia

3. Mengistu left Addis Ababa intact and did not drag the war into the city. He chose to leave peacefully instead of ruining everything nor did he retreat to the South to form a military force to retake power.

I asked you .. what did Menigustu do for his people  .. Not what did USSR do .. or which countries supported him

also the Demolishtion iyo Destruction of Xamaar aka The Pear of East Africa began long after Aabe Siyaad (aun) left the place ;) .and we all know that

He is giving Menigustu credit for begging

AbdiWahab252 blames Siad Barre for what happened in Xamar. He doesn't even acknowledge what his kinship did to Somalia

Mengistu left a better legacy for Ethiopia and than MSB left for Somalia.

No, it was the people after Mengistu who made Ethiopia peaceful

Now can we say the samething after the successors of MSB?

Somalia was going to collapse with or without rebels coming in to overthrow MSB.

The country was already bankrupt from not only the Ogaden War but the structural adjustment policies by the IMF and World Bank. Read up on it people. Things weren't as rosy as we all liked to believe. Over half of Somalia's budget was foreign aid in the 1980s. We didn't produce anything with or without MSB.

It was going to collapse one way or another.

But Somalia doesn't posses the people capable of care-ship of a whole country not just their clan tuulos.

MSB between 69-77 had things in a better picture. But, socialism and stuff wasn't good even though the political purposes was for arms...Somalis are too entrepreneurial for socialism... a mix would have saved us and perhaps even got us oil.

Hindsight is 20/20... but there were good and bad and the bad was going to catch up to us without the advent of all these qabil groups
