care to explain more bro?

You mean a real wadaad or someone who is very close to Allah?
Yeah brother someone who is very close to allah and does all that is expected of him cannot succumb depresion. So maybe that is what the sheikh meant by a practising muslim. Of course he will succumb to other ilnesses but not depression as we know it.
Actually I know of two people who are very religious, always praying, reading the quran, both of the them have been to hajj and both of them have suffered from depression. So it does happen.

Horta, why are people asking these Sheikhs about matters they have no knowledge of and why are these same Sheikhs giving their opinions? If a person does not know about something, has never studied it, has never met anyone in a therapy session or the biology involved, why are they farting away their ignorant opinions? Sheikhs know the religious rulings and depression is not a religious matter, its a medical matter. They should humbly decline to comment on it and answer only what they have knowledge of. Many Sheikhs have denied the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Muslim world, instead shooting off brain farts that the only people who end up with the disease are either homosexuals or men who have anal intercourse with women. The result was catastrophic and the disease under the guise of ignorance & confusion spread like wildfire in many Muslim countries.

The logic is: " I don't know enough about it, its different & goes against the little knowledge I have, therefore it must not exist!"

And people wonder why the Muslim world is in such a disarray?

depression would explain why some of us arent getting on with life, it would also explain why we have so many khad addicts and single parent families.

i dont think its something extreme, people are just generally pissed off about the whole "never ending war" in Somalia, but i think we are dealing with it so yeah, its there but not critical.

there are somalis who are depressed and some even commit suicide but what the sheikh said is true because practicing muslim cannot be depressed. depression is being ungratful to what you have and we as muslims are told to thank allah. and most case of depression happens when a person drinks or takes alcohol and this is not allowed in islam. going 5 times a day to the mosque to pray you will never be depressed but if you sit at home then go to work for 8 hours then come back home that can get depressing

Somalis men are only depressed when they live with Somali wives or their mothers.

I had no reason to live until I left home, everyday I wanted to kill myself but I saw no reason to make the world a happier place by doing so. Today I'm living life fully and happily, alxamdulilah

maybe odd? he just dismissed a major illness as no existent, I think he is very illogical. I respect Sheikhs but I don't just follow what they say like a sheep. You believe in depression?
