The Qu'ran says there shall be no compulsion in religion. If someone no longer believes in Islam in his/her heart, there is no reason to force them to remain Muslim. I always thought the same. I don't see the point of killing someone because they no longer want to follow a particular religion. If that is done then a religion is no different to a cult.

Killing someone who defelects at a time of war at the battleflied makes sense in terms of strategy and defense but otherwise it's just bullying non believing people into pretence for which they will still be punished by God.

In my view, a so-called Somali christian should never be allowed in Somalia unless that Somali was born into Christian household for the mere simple fact that the civil war was setup to change the character of the Somali people. There is a massive missionary campaign taking place in the country and in the refugee camps of the neighboring countries where they are trying to spread their man-made religion while hiding behind NGOs, AMISOM, and other schemes. The ruling to kill apostates came because most of the times apostates went to the other sides so they were an enemy to kill.
But if i remember correct prophet pbuh didnt command the ethiopian king to sent back the apostate arab so he can be killed.

So if a apostate joins the enemy and he is an danger to the islamic state then he can be killed, if he does not form a danger nor does he invite others to leave islam then we should leave him alone.
