Do you know about the ayah that talks about particular Muslims who do not experience fear or unhappiness?

I'm tired of muslims who don't believe in mental-illness, depression or even jiins (which at this point becomes an aqeedah issue). The fact that they always believe mental illness is from something 'bad' a person did! No, it can be GENETICS too!

The Sheikh even spoke about "drinking the ayats of the quran after having written it and washed it off," and you know what? It is Sunnah!

I don't know when the Muslim world will join the rest of the world by accepting a few simple facts. FACT #1: Depression is a medical condition, it has been so for decades now. FACT #2: The human brain like any organ in the body can get ill and many cognitive & mood disorders are the result of hormonal imbalances in the brain. FACT #3: Mood disorders like depression do not have the ability to distinguish between "good people" and "bad people". It happens to everyone that is susceptible to it, because of genetics, lifestyle, brain composition, etc. FACT #4: Not everyone who displays unhappy emotions suffers from depression, manic depressives or bipolars generally enjoy very high stamina, positive mood, exagerrated sense of accomplishment, etc. They look like the happiest people on earth, but its often short lived. FACT# 5: Clinical depression has a completely different meaning in the medical community than it does out on the streets. FACT #6: Depression can be treated with psychotherapy and/or psychopharmacology.

Diseases don't care who or what you are. And its about time we as Muslims started accepting the existence of these illnesses and their treatment. Its no longer a case of deny it and it will somehow disappear. These illnesses are life crippling. And something as simple as post-partum depression has the potential to manifest itself as a major depression, essentially making the sufferer unable to function or do harmful things to themselves or to those around them. First step to eradication is seeking knowledge of these conditions and mass campaigns of educating society. These Sheikhs can help a great deal by stopping with confusing the people & keeping silent about conditions they lack knowledge on.

Practising Muslims can get depression but wat I've experienced is dat it's usually wen u start practising that you get the depression as the shaytans don't want you getting closer to Allah(SWT). Quran is a shiifa as the ayat you qouted as said .. But read da dua book fortrous(sp?) of the Muslim there is a dua for laziness and depression and make sure you put surah al baqarah on in your house everyday walal as it stops evil comin in to your home.

Hopefully that should be enough to cure the depression inshallah

JazakAllah khair sis. :rose: :rose:

This also further proves that muslims can get depressed, experience sorrow and anxiety among other thing. I mean we have dua's specifically for these stuff!

Perfect order,

What you said! Depression is caused by many factors and Vitmain D been one of them. Here in the West Black people and asians and those that cover themselves up are more likely to suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. So of course if they do not take pills and are ignorant about it, they might suffer from lack of Vitamin D. This is what happened to me, it was so bad my Vitamin D deficiency and I remember this time I was badly depressed and I didn't understand, I almost wanted to go on anti-depressants.

Basra,

Grow-up and stick to the topic, from your writing you seem to be informed, so just stick to the topic.

Not at the top of my head, or maybe not even, please enlighten us.

Samadoon waaxid,

Watch the Videos, it is VERY good runnti. The cases of jiins are very simple, majority of the time it is NOT jiin possession but epilepsy and other illnesses.

HalfD,

This Sheikh was very good MaashaAllah, and he did not comment on what he knew nothing about.

I particularly enjoyed what the doctor (a psychiatrist) was saying, the third link (part 3) is his speech.

. He said it is common with the lower class people and those least educated to believe that WEAK people get depressed. This of course is highlighting that there is an education issue here.

. They found that depression is affected by ALL globally, muslims and non-muslims (it is not a kuffar thing). It is not a WESTERN disease and neither is it to do with those living a Western lifestyle (whatever that might be). They found out in India or Pakistan that people from the rural areas (Villages) were more depressed then those in the city, of course the doctor pointed out that it maybe due to their harsh life.

. He spoke about psychotic illnesses and sometimes if doctors aren't informed themselves, they can get mixed messages. For example if a muslim were to say to a psychiatrist I have to angels on both my shoulders recording everything I do, then he is by no means mad. But if he were to say I'm getting messages from the BBC telling me to kill the Queen, then clearly there is something wrong. Another example, if a muslim were to say I'm being followed, then he could very well be, because of the current climate we are in. So, sometimes we must take peoples cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds into account.
Shaykh Abu Eesa, made a comment regarding asian women and how high cases of them are suffereing from depression due to their environment at home. He said, some 'practising' ( ) brothers view that their wives should be at home, locked up, cooking and cleaning, but they themselves are always out with friends, going to circles and enjoying themsleves. This made me think about Somali ladies too, whilst they are not getting it as bad as asian females in regards to being forced to stay at home, they have loads of kids and most of the time bring them up with no 'husband' help. This can lead to problems with one person having to shoulder some much responsibilties.
p.s. The funny thing. The last part of the video - part 4 is the questions and answers. A lot of the time the Shaykh dealing with possessions would be asked questions but he kept wanting to pass it on to the Doctor, because clearly the people are suffering from health related problems rather than possessions! He sees at the very least a thousand cases a YEAR and only say maybe 3-4 is real cases of possession. :|
