Its a village with open field, it has few trees but good soil. Thats were most people like to farm, cause its a flat, so its easier to farm. My ancestors called the village Banaaney.SahanGalbeed wrote:Question !
Why is it called banaaney as in banaan , a flat mostly arid piece of land in somali .

Haa Banaaney goes under degmada Beled-Xaawo its near river Dawwa but its also near river Jubba. Banaaney is in between Doloow (where Jubba rivers starts) and Beled-Xaawo (where River Dawaa starts). My grandads farm is located east and outside of Banaaney village near Doloow side.mudugawi wrote:Is it located in degmada Beledxaawo. In case it is surely the closest river would be Dawa. There is no Famine in Gedo, and there is no al-shabaab in Gedo except of Baardheere district, and soon my fellow cousins can farm their tabacco farms in Baardheere that Al-Shabaab stopped.tightrope wrote:YET THERE'S A FAMINE AND YOUR PRECIOUS AL-SHABAB ARE DENYING IT AND BLOCKING FOOD AIDgrandpakhalif wrote:Mashallah. This article says they grow in the North but not the South. I'm surprised. It seems like they should. At least two palm species thrive there.

Re: My grandfathers farm in Banaaney, Gedo -PIC
"To summarise, the extreme limits of date palm distribution are between 10°N (Somalia) and 39°N (Elche/Spain or Turkmenistan). Favourable areas are located between 24° and 34°N (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Israel, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, etc.). In USA, date palm is found between 33° and 35°N. Because of climatic factors, the date palm will grow, but will not fruit properly outside the above defined geographical limits."

Just needs peace and Gedo itself could be the bread basket of the nation with good investment.
