Why is it called banaaney as in banaan , a flat mostly arid piece of land in somali .

Its a village with open field, it has few trees but good soil. Thats were most people like to farm, cause its a flat, so its easier to farm. My ancestors called the village Banaaney.

Haa Banaaney goes under degmada Beled-Xaawo its near river Dawwa but its also near river Jubba. Banaaney is in between Doloow (where Jubba rivers starts) and Beled-Xaawo (where River Dawaa starts). My grandads farm is located east and outside of Banaaney village near Doloow side.

I used to think there was date farms in south somalia, but actually it doesn't grow there. Maybe it can but at the moment there is none.

This article says they grow in the North but not the South. I'm surprised. It seems like they should. At least two palm species thrive there.
