What if the dead guy was a convicted dope peddler who is break-dancing in Jahannam? It's hard to mouth pleasantries about a drug hustler. No amount of sugary words will convert him into a saint.

It's akin to those bereaved families one sees on the evening news of gunned down hoodlums sounding off about how the gangster was an angelic father of four who never harmed a fly.

I mean really, is lying gonna help the deceased?

Are you Allah? How do you know he will go to hell? Are you gonna judge him on judgement day? Do you what's in the heart of the deceased? Do you know that Allah is the most forgiving. Since when was making Dua for a dead person a sin? And what does making dua got to do with lying about the deceased person?

To paint a man neck deep in criminal enterprise as a family man after he's shuffled off this mortal coil is to be economical with the truth. I've never been to a tacsi that only showered God's mercy on a man. They are as much about eulogising the dead.

It's natural for the man's kin to do so because they see him only in his kinder moods, but the people he mugged and shot will take a different view.

You strike me as someone who's never been to a tacsi. People don't just say that a man was good at parenting. They say that he was a good man because he did X, Y and Z.

Having some good qualities does not make you a good man if you harm people. A wicked man becomes a saint the instant he dies. This is dishonesty. It might be justified by the circumstance, but a white lie is still a lie,

I see where you coming from, but those behaviours come from people who used to be envious of the deceased and try to speak-ill of the dead including spewing lies. This is done by minority people that are envious of the deceased, thinking people will remember the dude as a hero. This is also wrong. People should not lie about the deceased if its too make them be remembered as good or bad. Good people speak honestly and also don't speak ill of the dead even if some of their actions were bad. Simply talk about the good things they characterised or did with honesty and do not talk about the bad things they characteristic or did. This is what we should do as a Muslim and as Somalis.
