It's akin to those bereaved families one sees on the evening news of gunned down hoodlums sounding off about how the gangster was an angelic father of four who never harmed a fly.

I mean really, is lying gonna help the deceased?
Are you Allah? How do you know he will go to hell? Are you gonna judge him on judgement day? Do you what's in the heart of the deceased? Do you know that Allah is the most forgiving. Since when was making Dua for a dead person a sin? And what does making dua got to do with lying about the deceased person?
To paint a man neck deep in criminal enterprise as a family man after he's shuffled off this mortal coil is to be economical with the truth. I've never been to a tacsi that only showered God's mercy on a man. They are as much about eulogising the dead.

It's natural for the man's kin to do so because they see him only in his kinder moods, but the people he mugged and shot will take a different view.

Have you ever heard about never speak-ill about a dead. That's right, its not right to talk about the bad things they did or speak about them, people already knew that. Once a person dies during tacsi talkin about good things they did is the best in addition it also comforts the people that lost him/her.

^ Speak no evil of the dead is a fine precept, but that only proves that it's an occasion to tiptoe around the truth. Honesty is forbidden. If he was a wife-beating, pensioner mugging, jaad peddling layabout, everyone says he was a loving husband who was gainfully employed and never ran into trouble. It's a dishonest enterprise.

I don't say that it's a bad thing for lying is sometime justifies, but it's hard to discuss the death of someone killed in a shoot out with the police without mentioning how he came to die?

Who said lying about anything? Are tryin to say that anyone that was in the wrong path never did anything good. Now that's a load of bullshit. I clearly said, people should talk about the good things they did, or good characteristics they had. For example you will see a drug dealer that is good towards their parent, or a thief that was good at education or a wife-beater that was good with his kids.

To be honest, they're probably grieving so much that nothing you say will even register and the only thing they'll remember is you showed up and said something. I'd just stick to the basics and say "Ilaahay Ha U Naxariisto, Janadiisana Ha Ka Waraabiyo".

You strike me as someone who's never been to a tacsi. People don't just say that a man was good at parenting. They say that he was a good man because he did X, Y and Z.

Having some good qualities does not make you a good man if you harm people. A wicked man becomes a saint the instant he dies. This is dishonesty. It might be justified by the circumstance, but a white lie is still a lie,

^ Actually in Somali tacsi, people talk about the good characteristic of the people, such he was generous, had good patience, he was good at helping etc. People can commit bad crimes but at the end of the day their good behaviours will be remembered and talked about. People will never lie to say good things that they never did or characterised. Nobody is gonna lie.

 I see where you coming from, but those behaviours come from people who used to be envious of the deceased and try to speak-ill of the dead including spewing lies. This is done by minority people that are envious of the deceased, thinking people will remember the dude as a hero. This is also wrong. People should not lie about the deceased if its too make them be remembered as good or bad. Good people speak honestly and also don't speak ill of the dead even if some of their actions were bad. Simply talk about the good things they characterised or did with honesty and do not talk about the bad things they characteristic or did. This is what we should do as a Muslim and as Somalis.

I knew a guy once who smashed his motorbike in a traffick collision and was sent leaping into the arms of God uninvited. At his funeral ceremony when his wife was on the podium hyming his praises, in rushed his mistress to kiss him goodbye.

Wareer badana!

Awraadle, you have a cultural deficit markaas saxiib. They like to ornament and sharax things among the moneyed qaxootis. Don't make me post the pictures.

Wadaadnimo isku sheeg waa laga roonyahey. It's good to attend the funeral wakes of all the sons of Adam. I went to bid a Christer farewell last year. The cathedral offered good red wine. I will take you with me next time.
