Why don't we change it to Dinar and dirham. We could use Dinar as the currency and the Dirham as the subunit?
Ninyoho I agree with you 100% percent. Here are some better options:

- Isaaqland (My favorite!)
- Queen Elizabeth's state of Absolute Monarchy
- English wannabes
- Habar some clan

The list goes on but this will do for now.

I agree with using Dinar, we werent colonized by Arabs anyway so there is no baggage, and people trade in geel in real life so it would be confusing. Filis for subunits  We already use the term filis in Somali so it should be easy.

As for Soliziland, no comment

Exchange one form of cultural imperialism for another? That's a bright f-king idea.

Geel.

No offence, but your ignorance is quite painful sometimes. The state of Somaliland has never been under any imperial authority except the British and even that was a sort of laissez faire system and they did not govern us. It certainly wasn't to the same extent the italians had with you southerners with plantations and whatnot. They even built you cities.

There was a brief Ottoman control of Zeila and Berbera but that was less a colonisation and more a safeguarding the Red Sea from Western military interests.

So you see your point makes no sense, unless you see Islam as a form of Arab colonisation?

I'm for changing the name, the currency and for moving the capital to the coast, preferably Berbera. Somalis have to be original, you can't just use an old colonial name to refer to your own country and use old colonial money. If that were the case Zimbabwe would still be call Rhodesia.

Land is not even a somali word. Just think about it for a second. It's like the english refering to their country as Englishstan. When I think of Somaliland, Somalis don't come to mind but what comes to mind is Thailand, Swaziland etc countries that I don't want to associate with.

I even prefer Somalia as a name (even with all the negative connotations). We could be the Democratic Republic of Somalia and xamar could be the Republic of Somalia. Why not? It works for China and Taiwan as well as North and South Korea.

No, almost every nation has their ethnicity embedded into their name. We are Somalis so that should definitely be in our name and 'Somaliland' just rolls of the tongue.
As for shilling there can be an argument to change it, but as for now it is fine.

I love the Name 'Somaliland'
I love the Flag :sland:
Only thing I would change is the anthem, it isn't catchy. We have vast amounts of abwaans so I would want something to inspire generations to come

See, that's a nice name that even alludes to history - the Adal Sultanate. My choice would be to name the country Hargeisa. It is a beautiful name. Though I don't think Reer Burco would agree.
