For those who have traveled to places south of Xamar - like Marka, Kismayo, Gedo, etc.

How did you travel there and what was the hassle like back then and today? Be specific please.

Personally I think a trip anywhere north of Xamar is much easier than south of it. North of Xamar there is really no foreign presence outside the border strip, and you don't have to come through the borders of other countries (Kenya/Ethiopia) to enter, as you would with places like Gedo or the Jubbas where your best point of entry is through Kenya. Another big obstacle would also be the unpredictability of the far south, you don't know if some loose Bantu tribe will kidnap and eat you in Kambooni or Jilib (I'm not joking, this shit happens). At least up north, if I'm traveling through Galguduud or Mudug I know who controls what and how to deal with each group (bribes work here), as opposed to the Jubbas which are a total no-man's land outside of the main cities (who knows if these ppl even take bribes?).

Ideally, lets say I want to go to Kismayo. How would I go about that? Why I'm asking is because in this scenario, I'd prefer to avoid landing in Xamar altogether, preferring instead a route through Kenya. For the moment I can be confident that everywhere between Afgooye and Kismayo are safe because there is no fighting and its controlled by 1 faction. Its the areas immediately outside that safe zone that worry me, like the road from Liboi to Kismayo or from Xamar to Afgooye, where marauding gunmen and wild Bantu jungle people roam. I don't even think I'll get past Xamar, so avoiding it would be nice if possible.

Last thing I want to do is travel in the isbaaro-infested hell that is south Somalia. I'd actually prefer taking a boat from Yemen or Kenya to Kismayo if possible (actually that sounds really good).

I appreciate all answers, thank you for the time.

Greenday, why is that strange? Kismayo is 100x safer than Xamar, shit its safer than Hargeysa at the moment.

On another note, why the fuck are these desperate ass people seeking shukaansi on every corner? How the hell did a topic about travel questions in Somalia attract these flies?

Grown ass men chasing some grown-ass cyber character about her/its age for a whole damn page length. ---these people must be socially deprived or some shit. I guess this is what the Admin prefers to topics of substance. Whatever floats their boat I guess.

What?? How is hargeysa mor dangerous then xamar? Un health organizations won't even work in southern Somalia, to those who know what's the health care system like in xamar?

No, where did you get that? I stated that Kismayo is safer than Hargeysa. You should check the commas. :?

Anyway, back to topic, thank you.

Monk,

Mog is not that bad. Fly there and take the bus to Ceelasha Biyaha (40,000 or $2) and then on to Kismayo.

Its only scary until you cross the last TFG check point and from then on unless you are taking photos or look very western, you won't be caught. AS seized a member of the diaspora off a bus because he stood out: well dressed, over nourished etc.

Or you could try the dangerous overland trip from Galkayo to Hiiraan

Good luck ! Send photos.
