Excellent news.

This is an important bit of news! this will at-least incorporate what's left of Shabaab into the system, or maybe give them a voice. The worst case scenario, is alshabaab being reduce to using suicide tactics, and dragging this whole process on for a lot longer. Although i am against Al-shabaab and everything they stand for, it would greatly help the whole peace process.

I fail to see how this is a bad idea, are you people more emotional than you are rational? The reality is this government is filled with people who have participated and have been part and parcel of Somalia's problems. How are Al-shabab member different. People need to think long-term and think of what can create stability and lasting peace.

Excellent news and would make Sharif the most productive President since 1991.

Fantastic news if true, Abu Mansur is a rational guy and negotiating with his likes is the best thing sharif could do. Alshabab's young fighters are better trained and disciplined than the TFG's so integrating them into a future Somali Army is excellent indeed.
SMH at those cheering for the bloodshed to continue, did you not learn anything from 2007? A cornered animal only fights harder, AS will have no problem repeating their feat of 2007. *Sighs* silly Somalis.
I repeat this, Alshabab's young fighters are experienced and disciplined and must be integrated into the future Somali Army.

There is not a single media somali or non somali reporting this. And hillary clinton just said that they do not support or condone any negotiations with al shabab. I doubt Aweys will come back alive, since he has been promoted to a commander five days ago.
Aweys named Shabab's southern commando

Im sorry but this thread seems bogus.

If Somaliareport is true, what that means is Al-Shabaab has gotten rid of Godane and his amniyaat hitmen. It means Godane was told to start war in his home regions instead of making decisions that brought Al-Shabaab to many failures in southern Somalia. The word southern commander has a meaning here!Coeus wrote:There is not a single media somali or non somali reporting this. Nevertheless, if the claimed negotiations are credible, it seems to me the TFG wants to put pressure on the west to accept the formation of Somali army. If you follow the late London conference, both TFG president Sheikh Sharif Sheekh Axmed and TFG PM Abdiweli Gaas have both insisted they prefer the formation of viable Somali military than the arrival of many foreign forces.
Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys has also demanded few months ago that he will talk to the government when there is a withdrawal timetable for all foreign forces to leave Somalia. So, it is most likely that the TFG wants to put a weight on this claim. The lifting of arms embargo, the formation of a viable Somalia army, the creation of rules of engagement for foreign forces in Somalia, and a withdrawal timetable for all foreign forces to leave Somalia.
This should be seen as a positive news.
