Things must be really bad if people look back at the warlords era fondly.

you know what though, even with all the skirmishes and isbaaros i had family members living and visiting xamar throughout the warlord era and they only left after the courts were defeated by the Ethiopians in 2006.

Same thing with my grandpa and his family. Though he was an Ogaden colonol, who fought in the 77 war, he never left xamar until 2006.

Were they by any chance living of the anarchy like the Warlords?

Cause at the moment, this is the only time people feel 'safe' enough to return mass scale.

The Ethiopian time was really bad and the War was really bad, but if he didn't come back afterwards than that screams dodgy to me, sorry.

Well, why didn't he come back? It is really good now. Better than the Warlord-era, because now you can even get some form of justice.

He moved on, went back to his home town in Ogedenia, got remarried, his daughter who grew up there went from dire dawa to hargeisa currently. Xamar is still not that great, wouldn't recommend any of my family to live there, even as recently as 2012 a second or third cousin who went back there was killed.

Okay. AUN to your cousin. There has been a rise in the killing of well-known people and that's probably due to the politics. Still very sad, and you do get the occasional indiscriminate killing, but ruunti it has improved much much better.

Much worse ! The warlords were simpletons who worked for themselves unlike Baboons like Sharif Ahmed who is a booy for Mahiga & has outsourced "dawaladnimida" to African gaajo badan even boliiska.

true, at least the warlords were somali in it for themselves, not for filthy fufus. but that should not be read as excusing the parasitic warlords, just to show have things have gotten so bad under sharif the donkey, at least as far as corruption and racketeering are concerned.

Things are worse than say 2005. The warlords were cool. The city was not as damaged. There were no suicide bombings. There were no foreign soldiers in Xamar.

it had to do with thugs, who after the house was reclaimed, took advantage of them by trying to extort them. They said they wanted taxes, and since they refused, they started shooting at the house now and then. After awhile my uncle got tired and said fine we will pay you just stop shooting, after they agreed to that, one of their guys shot and killed my cousin. Marexaan demanded the guy be given to them, but he ran away. It could start a tit for tat killing between the two beel.

but still they're better under the wadads and their courts and you rejected them. this is what it has gotten you so far and it's only getting worse and you really have no right to complain.

SomaliStar,

Akhii, the warlords were parasites. However, unlike Sharif Ahmed, they were better "citizens" as they did not resort to the ultimate debauchery selling themselves into permanent slavery.

Xasan dahir aweys made a critical mistake of not giving the warlords amnesty, a sizeable pension and coopting them into a new government structure (even if they were shipped off to distant provinces i.e. Qeybdiid as governor of Beled Xawa, Maxamed Dheere as Waliya of Bay etc). He instead thought he could liquidate all of them especially Qeybdiid who was the most resourceful. It was Xasan's hatred of Sacad which was his undoing.

At least Adeer Turki had the wise sense to warn against the humiliation of Sacad.

Sorry to hear that, this is nothing to do with beel, they are just pure tuugo. If you know the guys you should have just reported them to officials. It is still not perfect, but I am optimistic we will get there InshaaAllah.

The City was damaged, the Warlords were bullies, there was indiscriminate killing by the various drug-ridden militias and worst of all there were no foreigners committing any of this.

Viva La Presidente!

Veiled,

My relatives never fled Xamar until the Courts time. Our boys were not locked up and hooded like GITMO detainees until Courts. We were humiliated in ways that made me regret fighting my abtiyaal for the dumb Hawiye.

maybe you're right: for the short term some of them should've been bought off, like indha cade, as they're nothing more than opportunists . but in the long term it'd not be possible to co-exist with parasites and criminals.

al-shabab may also have made the same mistake of not negotiating with the traitor ahmed madobe while they were besieged by their enemies on all sides. sometimes you've to be realistic and practical.
