Police, is lowly work.

Our folks should strive to get in sectors like Medical, Engineering, Social Work, Technology, etc. Eating donuts and writing tickets, shouldn't be an aspiration.

man these are our expectation very low, if one is not a thug and waste is inspiration. and this not in the west only, even here in the east. Somali youth here are in compatition with arabs, for rape, homesexuality, illigal khamri trading, khat selling etc.

I think the problem is people who have this mindset of being Somali as some exclusive club should embrace globalization and realize that Somalis will have problem just like any other community. The young Somalis in my community are alcoholics drug users, the worst type. Selling drugs is one thing but being the user is something shameful that even the jamaicans shake their heads. And when they get drunk they start fighting themsleves and anybody. They will all end up doing years with IPP.
7+ years for robbing 30 pounds is the real story. Somalis are focked.

Retirement after 20 years with a full pension is awesome. I have a friend in the army who joined @ 18 and will b retiring in less than 2 years. He is under 40 and can now afford to chill out for the rest of his life.

Very conflicted profession. Police can easily be vilified or glamourized, depending on the politics. With the identity comes a mentality and culture that individuals must adopt as officers.

p.s. Being taxi driver isn't as socially prestigious as a police officer, but they're both essentially make the same amount of money.

Where is this misconception that police officers are underpaid coming from? Police officers are well paid and have good pensions, at least here in canada.
