He chose to live in a land where there is rule of justice. Samantar was a vicious man whose crimes can not be simply washed away.

The government if this story is proven to be true committed a great disservice to the Somali people. It has stood up to let a war criminal who helped speed up the collapse of the Somali state go scot free. War criminals who chose to flee and settle in countries that provide victims of their brutality legal recourse deserve to be taken to court.
I'd take your soap box speech seriously if you, or any Somalis for that matter, showed such vigilance in pursuing figures within their own clan. Fact is, the rule of the day is to let bygones be bygones unless the targets are easy.

This is the last thing that broke the camel's back..im convinced reconciliation is not gona come anytime soon after this government platantly undertook this action..This is coming at a very delicate time in the history of the Somali people.... I was seriously warming up to the reunification process but now im totally siding with my people...So the man who's responsible for the death of my 80 year old grandma is giving immunity...now lets see if the south can force us join the south...This is declaration of war...before I went on a female liberation but now im ready to go back to the Republic of Somaliland and pickup an Ak47 and im ready to face "TheRepublic" and "GrandpaKhalif". I will show you how I fight in the field...Walahi if any stupid move is made by the south (once it gets strong and feels like messing with us) it will be death to the last man.. lets get it on you fcuktards...

Jaidi,

If my qabiil's war criminals came to resettle in the US, I wouldn't oppose any court cases against them. It serves them right !

Jaidi,

Why are you so opposed to the victims of Samantar's criminality from suing him ? Do you condone his actions ?

Abdiwahab, we all know how you ranted when Cabdi Qaybdiid, a man recorded physically taking part in human rights abuses during the civil war, was arrested on a visit to Scandinavia due to a court order filed as a result of a complaint.

This is the exact reason why these sorts of mob justice and trial by tribal grievances are counter-productive to a tribal society like Somalia trying to rise out of the longest absentia of central rule in modern history. Look at the excuses the Hargeisa folks give Dahir Riyaale, a man name as having been NSS commander in Berbera and recorded in Human Rights Watch. They said "we", "WE" forgave him for political expediency because we want his group to band around the idea of Somaliland. So by virtue of geographical location of his clan, Dahir Riyaale, was "forgiven" by political elites of that society but Cali Samatar is to be hounded across the globe?

What kind of justice is that? And who told political elites they have a final say on what justice is in this manner and how it will be meted out?

Cali Samatar represented the Somali State. We have had 22 years of war afterwards in which every clan contributed to the problem. In the resurgence of statehood, the government inclusive of all clans has sought fit to request amunity for him not saying crimes weren't committed but that kangaroo and mob style vengeance using foreign courts is not the appropriate arbitrator of the Somali story. It is an internal matter.

If it comes to war crimes and retributions, your own uncles and some of the men you have defended en masse here would be the first to be indicted for crimes against human rights.

Your post reeked of superficiality.

Secretary of State Clinton in January, (Somali) President (Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud) made a commitment to restore faith in governance and the rule of law. Embracing impunity for war criminals is a disappointing beginning,” she said in a statement.

In rejecting Samantar’s immunity claim last year, the appeals court said the executive branch’s recommendation is a big factor in determining immunity, but not the only one. It also said abuses such as torture and extrajudicial killings, like those Samantar was accused of, may never be eligible for protection.

Republic,

Qeybdiid was sent to court. There was not enough evidence found to prosecute him and he was set free. Samantar had day his court and was found liable. There are more Samantars out there and one by one, they too will have their day in court.

If you are a war criminal, rest assured you can not come to live out your days in America. Samantar should have stayed in Africa. You have this tendency to wash over the human rights abusives committed by your Marxist government as being legitimate while clamoring that those committed by rebels as being barbaric. SAmantar is one of the Godfathers of the collapse of the Somali state. I am happy that he was held liable and made to sweat.

But Abdiwahab u would protect ur adeeryaal to the T right? remember when abdiqeybdiid was arrested in sweden for war crimes and u swore revenge on those who accused ur hero? all of a sudden u singing a different tune now.

I do not blame the government for coming to the aid of this man for one simple reason, the art of cherry picking by the accusers. The "Faqashes" of northern origins were giving a pass like riyaale and so on but those who hailed from small clans are being targeted? I am all for going after all war criminals or leaving their fate to the almighty, remember the real court is in akhira.

Adali,

The Swedes would have not let Qeybdiid go if they had enough evidence to prosecute him. The Darood accusers failed to make a good case.

Abdwihab, this was your feelings on the eve of Qeybdiid's detention, a man captured on FILM committing human rights abuses, when he was accused by a former victim

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=34518
viewtopic.php?f=249&t=34880

There are 10 topics or more you started on the news he was even detained. What is justice? Who has rights to administer justice? How can it be meted out? Are tribal vengeance a best recourse for mob justice in a fragmented wartorn society trying to move past a difficult past? You make no sense but tribal vitriol.

Save me your superficiality. The inclusive and new Somali government presided over by a Hawiye, not a Darod, has taken it upon itself to own the issue of Somali justice rather than leave it to tribal vengeance peddled in foreign courts.

it is a great day for Somali justice.

Those under the sovereignty of the Somali state during those times will have the Somali State decide what is the best course of action. American law respects this cloture and after recognition was bestowed, it was natural for the Cali Samantar case to be sent back to Somalia to deal with.

Abdiwahab-

Justice will never be your justice. Justice is fair and equitable. You have a third world tribal mentality that will not reflect the standing of international law. Good luck.
