Late president Mohamed Naguib wrote in his memoir that it was hard to know Saddat's true stand on matters; he had the cleverness of the Egyptian falah. He would seem that he is with you, yet you would not know for sure if he was truly with you. General El-Shazly said that Saddat was not a military man, the two or three years he spent in the military academy does not make him a military man. After the Egyptian-Israeli war where Israel defeated Egypt, the Israelis occupied the huge Sinai region in Egypt and they built the Jewish city of Yamit inside Egypt which was settled by thousands of Israelis. When the Jews arrived in the city in 1975 it was nothing but desert, by 1980 it had according to the UN the best living standard in Egypt, it had free modern schools, a free modern hospital, nice free housing, jobs, good roads, running water, and tax paying Israeli citizens, in 1982 the city was returned to Egypt and is now destroyed, it is again just desert.....
