Good analogy. Israel so far hasn't demonstrated it can fight on its own without America's (and to a degree the EU) help. That's why Israelis do not brag about the 67 and 73 wars. On the other hand, those obsessed with Arabs (a number of them in this thread) have their own interpretation, just so to score a point.original dervish wrote:Actually they had the Israeli`s beat until the yanks intervened.
Very similar to what happened in the Somali/Ethiopian war of 1977.

Fantastic documentary, love it. Thanks Mr. Menace.
There is a minor thing I would like to add that the D-Day for the October War was set to be on Oct 5th, but because of logistics it was pushed back to the following day. I have heard it from Saad El-Shazly, Oct War Commander, in a documentary filmed few years before his death.

This documentary mentions a brilliant Egyptian colonel who came up with a genius idea when the dunes of the Sinai couldn't b crossed by the tanks...who knows him...Navy9 wrote:DoubleAppleNmint wrote:

Baki Zaki Yusuf came up with the idea of using water.
General El-Shazly in an interview said that the goal of the Oct war was not to recapture whole Sinai rather to take control of the area they initially planned for, but they lost it because of what happened at the Syrian frontier and Saddat's wish to help Hafiz.
A person needs to fully comprehend Saddat's mind to understand why he did what he did. He had a great political mind. He lost the war, true, but at the end he got what he wanted, Sinai was back to Egypt. His visit to the Keenest was a Checkmate. He portrayed himself as a man of war and a man of peace. No one can deny it.
He lost his younger brother in the 73 war, and when he invited the dying Shah of Iran after the whole world rejected him, I felt Saddat was a human being. Many disagreed with him and many hated him, but it is not fair to neglect his other achievements.
May Allah have mercy on his soul.

The october war happened because sadat wanted peace talks and the isrealis would not listen to him and ignored him.
The US ignored him too because according to intelligence reports egypts re-armament was expected to take untill 1977-78 and egypt was not ready for a war.
Sadat came up with the idea of a limited war to force isreal to acknowledge him and start peace talks, it worked untill he devieated from plan.
The objectives were limited cross to the other side of the suez and hold it against all assaults .
The syrians were brought in to bring a distraction to isreal, and sadat lied to the syrians, telling them that he was launching a total war.
The egyptian plan worked flawlessly but then again due to Saudi pressure who were providng support, and soviet pressure when syria was on the ropes, they were forced to go on the offensive and got fucked by the isreali airforce outside their SAM umbrella

I think the only time Syria stood with the west was Desert Storm . anti Zionist to the Bones , God bless the Syrians .
Gurey- Camp David accords and the compromises Sadat made were more crippling than the War . his own foreign minister resigned
while Negotiations were still ongoing protesting they were ridiculously in Israel's favor .

That's all they can wage war on..walahi Israel handed to them, specially when they abandoned their working strategy Ileen waan carab oo uu aqligu futada kaga Jiro..then that brilliant soldier Ariel Sharon encircled them and they ran to the UN for cessation of hostilities. Re: Arabs the most delusional people: They think they won 19
Late president Mohamed Naguib wrote in his memoir that it was hard to know Saddat's true stand on matters; he had the cleverness of the Egyptian falah. He would seem that he is with you, yet you would not know for sure if he was truly with you. General El-Shazly said that Saddat was not a military man, the two or three years he spent in the military academy does not make him a military man. I would like to say Saddat was indeed a سياسي محنك, i.e. a seasoned politician.gurey25 wrote:Navy9 wrote:Baki Zaki Yusuf came up with the idea of using water.

Re: Arabs the most delusional people: They think they won 19
After the Egyptian-Israeli war where Israel defeated Egypt, the Israelis occupied the huge Sinai region in Egypt and they built the Jewish city of Yamit inside Egypt which was settled by thousands of Israelis. When the Jews arrived in the city in 1975 it was nothing but desert, by 1980 it had according to the UN the best living standard in Egypt, it had free modern schools, a free modern hospital, nice free housing, jobs, good roads, running water, and tax paying Israeli citizens, in 1982 the city was returned to Egypt and is now destroyed, it is again just desert.....
