She's not the only one airing our dirty laundry for all to see. e.g. other Somalis demonstrating in huge numbers in Western countries complaining to and begging the white man to rescue them from other Somalis, demonstrating against Qat {when they could go down the petition route} Really when you think about it, what this woman is doing is no different. She also wants the Brits help ....in rescuing little girls from the big bad Somali habro with the big kitchen knives.

We are brushing the issue down the rag when we refer to it as "dirty laundry". The only reason why we have this issue is because of the "shhh shhh" surrounding this topic.

It's honestly sad that Somali women have to take their concerns to some gaal that will only feel momentary sadness for them because we as a community wouldn't take the issue seriously and address it head on.

Some of those habro are down right evil. They know the pain and the agony that comes with FGM, and they still do it to their daughters. You've to wonder what these older women are thinking. I was watching the documentary "Half the Sky", and there was a scene where a woman named Mariam who circumcises girls lied about stopping the procedure after hearing the objectives of religious scholars and health workers. Some of these women were even given financial incentive to make them stop, but I think they get some pleasure and fulfillment from mutilating the genitals of little girls.

Somalis should only discuss it as far as I'm concerned since it's a Somali problem. In fact I hate it when some Somalis object to this topic being discussed on Somali tv channels for instance.

There is nothing wrong with discussing FGM. Lakin it has to be with the correct audience. What do white people have to do with this? If you want to stop it, go and talk to those habars looking to do it to their daughters.
