Good to come across another Somali who calls it kimiis.. I think its a Somali word.EvolSyawla wrote:Drool omg
We call it kimiis. I don't know if that's a borrowed word from arabic, but thank god it's not hindi.
Ours is layered and delishhh
The yemenis also call it sabayad.. it tastes a wee bit different to the somali version though.. less flaky, ,

This made me laughMissBonita wrote:I've only made chapati once in my life ..I don't intend to ever make it again.
I made the somali version once I think in 2013. I have no interest in making it again. I didn't like using the rolling pin over and over
Re: Chapati (East African)
I make it few times a year coz some family ask me to make even while i am visiting them.

Sabaayad, with subag iyo shaah bigeys

Re: Chapati (East African)
My whole family calls it kibiis/kibis. Except my dad who sometimes refers to it simply as sabaayad. Kimiis sounds super weird.DisplacedDiraac wrote: Good to come across another Somali who calls it kimiis.. I think its a Somali word.

What's shaah bigeys? You mean cadeys?Perfect_Order wrote:Sabaayad, with subag iyo shaah bigeys
I can make sabaayad, well I made it before and it made my arm and wrist hurt. You have no idea how much kneading you have to do and rolling stuff is also not the easiest. So now I just buy this thing from the supermarket, I think it's Indian. It's frozen and you put it on a hot pan for a few minutes and viola! Magaca aa ii gambiye
