My cousin is deaf (lost her hearing at 4) and she reads lips perfectly, what she lacks in hearing, she makes it up in beauty. However most faraxs were scared of that. Alxamdulilah she recently married a deaf farax and they both communicate in sign language.

Certain places in Somalia have people that are fluent in American sign language, I can personally speak about Awdal, the only Somali deaf school in the entire Somalia. I learned a bit from the students there.

The benefits of learning American sign language to a Somali in Africa is two things, you can communicate with deaf people, and secondly you can read and understand English fluently

More schools like that should be opened up Inshallah.
