Its not about being cheap but asking for 10k just signals the shallowness of her and family.
There are people dumb enough to pay that price and put themself in alot of trouble and pay the weeding altough they cant afford the meher even.

This is where I strongly disagree. She's not being "bought" and the fact that she's comparing herself to her sister's or competing with them shows she's immature at most, and at the very least she's not planned for the long term. If she's intended to be in it forever, then tawakkal calallah & be humble. Remember the dowry/meher is insurance in case the marriage breaks down. Insurance is only ever high when break down is very likely.

Btw I assume this is $10k Not £10k? In pounds is much too much.

The Nikkah amount is not between families, its between You and Her. She can forgive the entire Nikkah amount after marriage. Most likely You'll be spending well over 10k on Her expenses within a short amount of time. After 6 months/1 year of marriage When She sees You're responsible and not just trying to 'Hit and run' but are in the marriage for the long hall she'll just forgive the amount and the meher will be zero. In that case the family probably wanted the 10k just so they can brag at the wedding 'Our Daughters meher is 10k'.
