That's the Kenyan government for you. They will only provide services if there are non Somalis in the area, they frequently attack Somalis, murder Somalis, false arrest and imprison Somalis...we can go on all day. Al Shabaab might be the most despicable people in Somali history, but the reasons behind their actions are not always off, that's why they'll continue to grow and get support. The Kenyan government has no moral superiority here.

Re: BeyondQabil's lies about Garissa attack
Once again, another horrific massacre by the al-sheydhaan. Hundreds of students have been massacred. Just like in Mandera where they slaughtered poor quarry labours, teachers and doctors, this time hundreds of innocent students have been massacred by the the cancer called Al-shabaab.
Because of restrictions on how the media reports events, we do not know much about how the deaths occurred. What defies logic, however, is how supposedly 4 people could have killed this number of people? what we know from official sources is that 148 were killed (142 students) 104 injured. There are probably security forces' casualty but we shall never know (african governments do not make public security forces casualty). What we know is that the majority of those killed are non-somalis. Most of the dead are girls (killed during a morning sermon; most of the boys jumped the walls).
What we know is that dozens of innocent lives have been lost; and that it is likely that this massacre has been carried out by people from the NFD. They are reports that they spoke Kiswahili and that they were educated in Garissa schools.
The NFD is now back to the 60s-90s; a curfew is in place. The real price will be paid by the innocent somalis in the NFD; rape, torture and harassment will be the norm. If the keyword of the 1960s-1990s, was SHIFTA , the new one will be “Al-shabaab”.
Read here an account of being a Kenyan Somali:

Students of NFD history will recall what happened in 1980 when Abdi Madoobe ( a thug, a poacher, freedom fighter, shifta; choose your own term) killed a few officials resulting in the Garissa Massacre; when hundreds of women were raped; Buula Kartasi burned. This was a prelude to the Wagalla and Malka re massacres in which thousands perished.
The NFD is not only economically marginalised but also its citizens have been repeatedly treated as second class citizen. Yes, things have improved with the new constitution; devolution has brought local governance but there is a lot to do; there are police controls all over the NFD for instance and a somali from the NFD is still viewed with suspicion.
What to do? Kenya’s mistake was to invade Somalia. How can a nation be this stupid and fall into Al-shebaab’s trap? Al-sheydhaan nourishes its heinous rhetoric through the concept of somaliweyn which spans across the political/religious spectrum. Atheists, communists, Sufis, separatists, (even the somali government) and almost every somali view the NFD and western Somalia as entities that are colonised. Even Ayaan Hersi will support the notion that Kenya and Ethiopia oppress the somalis.
Al-sheydaan have used/will use the historical grievances as well as the actions of the Kenyan armed forces as a mantra to murder innocent poor Kenyans.
This view appears to have eluded the Kenyan government. Its tourism industry is in turmoil. Its people murdered in cold blood. It is likely that the curfew will result in abuses by its forces and resulting in a vicious cycle; petrol for Al-sheydhaan.
Kenya should get out of Somalia. Let the cancer of Al-shabaab be a somali problem.

Re: BeyondQabil's lies about Garissa attack
Because the Kenyan government recruited student's from outside of NED to study there. It has nothing to do with Somalis being Muslim, we just happen to be a large community and if Somalis there become educated, they will really shake up the Gikuyu and Luo corruption ring aka the Kenyan government. Garissa is literally the last town before ALL roads and infrastructure end. The rest of the NED is worse than Somalia, believe me Somalis cross the border to buy goods.

Re: BeyondQabil's lies about Garissa attack
Daff, there are somali students but the majority are from down kenya; cheaper tuition rates, affirmative actions, and quality/curricula are the main reasons. As GedoGurl wrote, the education level of the somalis in the NFD is low. The county governments have given priority to higher education. In Mandera, when the teachers from down kenya left as a result of the security operations, many somalis in other professions started teaching. In the NFD, there are many private schools and in a few years time, we shall catch up.Daff wrote:LG i read somewhere 700 of the students in that college are not Somali. Well. I hate to see innocent students being murdered, but this will be like the pirates, having unintended consequences for the locals, good or bad. I hope the majority of students and teachers will be Somalis in the near future.
