I think most of us are out of touch of the circumstances on the ground. What is wrong with foreign investments that creates employment opportunities for the millions of youth who are unemployed and who would be swayed to become militias of their tribal warlords or being employed by Alshabab to survive? How can the government create jobs, build infrastructure and educate all these youths when it is broke? You can regulate foreign investments and legislate laws dealing with worker's rights and abuses. It is easy to criticise and become an alarmist from the comforts of the Western world with a fridge full of food. Why would those poor and hungry young Somalis reject any opportunity for employment in their own country that may change their lives and those of their families for the better? We have settled every corner of the world for these kinds of opportunities. What is the alternative for them? Put yourselves in their shoes, it is a far better suggestion than these youth attempting tahriib, dying and perishing in the desert trying to reach Western Europe, or joining Alshabab for financial gains to make ends meet. When these businesses invest in infrastructure, build factories and modernise our agriculture, then the government can concentrate delivering services such as health and education. Somalia needs more investments to lift these people from abject poverty. The title and content of the OP's thread is xenophobic. No pun intended.

ARC has been involved in the illegal digging and mining for minerals in the Simodi mountain ranges in the Awdal region of Somalia. These activities are a violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. These activities are also a threat and an immediate danger to the fragile but improving political situation in Somalia.

ARC’s illegal activities have already caused civil turmoil and tensions among communities in the region following the company’s introduction of armed militia to protect its illegally obtained mining acreage. It has been noted that ARC’s activities have also caused the large scale displacement of inhabitants in the area and the destruction of private property. ARC’s activities are very similar to other companies that have engaged in activities that have caused environmental degradation, and the illegal disposal of harmful chemicals without regard to water tables, grazing lands, and underground aquivors.

Read the histories of South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Dadkaasa dhiig leh. They completely banned investment from outsiders, especially the chinese, when they were developing they're economies. In fact, chinese weren't legally allowed to own land in South Korea until quite recently. Why? Because the chinese and indians are business savvy and would knock out all the local competition. No money would go back into the community. Just look at Kenya and South Africa. All the money is in the hands of Indians and white businesses. West Africa is controlled by french and lebanese-arab businesses.

South Africa is fighting back yet again, look at 'Rhodes Must Fall', he represents the racist colonial history which put set black people behind economically for white and Asian gain.White and Asian Apartheid assisted domination won't last for long there, but before they get there, they'll probably experience a recession so bad that they'll turn on each other and the whites will return with 'aid' and structural adjustment procedures to set their economy, health care and education back for years while the whites buy up land and resources which they'll probably allow because it beats starvation.
