Yeah Somalis used to kidnap all the time. But I think it's the sheikhal that made it their culture otherwise the marriage wasn't accepted.

Can anyone confirm this old Somali nomadic tradition for me, on the wedding night, a man was expected to physically overpower (Lagdin/Dagaal) the woman before consummating the marriage. The woman would not also view him as a 'man' if he could not physically overpower her.

Halmog, I have heard it on several occasions from the wise men with red beards in regard to how Reer Mii Somalis conducted themselves when it came to consummating a marriage.
Even the Orientalist Richard Burton noted a similar tradition in his book.

Some centuries ago in Somalia, when a man is interested in a woman and wants her for marriage, he would got and take big shit outside her backyard. As the family awakes in the morning, they'd welcome the shit with mashxarad and music because their daughter is getting married. Apparently, this was pretty popular among Somalis.

True story. Matter of a fact, the bigger the shit the deeper the love the man has for the woman. Some niggas would save up their shit by keeping for couple of days and then go all out in front of her house.
