Great progress. We should be part of the mainstream, and this shows that community is gradually integrating gradually into mainstream America. These officers will help Somali kids and will hopefully work with Somali parents to prevent the young Somali men and women from joining gangs.

Hi to you Voltage. This is brother Udun!

Are you serious Advo?

Without cops, there would have been chaos here. There is this Bangladeshi police officer who is a Muslim in Columbus, Ohio and is tasked to mostly Somali neighborhoods. So, having a Somali officer in Columbus, Ohio will help a long way, especially building community relationships with law enforcement.

The sad part is current Sheriff Zach Scott who promised to hire more Somali deputies in Columbus, Ohio didn't receive enough votes to win hopefully against the guy who is supported by the current mayor in November general election of who will be a mayor. AAs have more numbers than us and that is why the guy endorsed by the current mayor got 52% of the vote

I had horrible experiences with cops, specially minority cops who tab dance for their superiors every chance. I don't hate all cops tho but I feel extremely uncomfortable around them.

It is not only Hassan Dheere. Actually, anyone who knows Mayor Coleman and he dealt with the Somalis would go with anyone who opposes his favored candidate. Zach would have been good for us because he understands the problem of Somali youth and he approached the Somalis and told us your solution is you need to have Somalis joining law-enforcement agencies and working with Somali parents to prevent Somali youth from joining gangs. Coleman and his cronies are just corrupt as hell.

Our problem is division and lack of common agenda. We also don't have the numbers to beat the maddows in this town, but nevertheless, it is a good start that we have our own law-enforcement officers. Hopefully, the trend will grow, Zach will have a second shot in November 2015 general elelction, and if he loses as it looks like, he will have another chance. In politics, you never give up!

According to the below link, maddows are 24% of the population in Columbus, Ohio, and their vote always go to overwhelmingly in one direction!

Somalis are completely missing from city employment, no Somalis joined the police force under his watch, and he knows how Somalis revived failing black neighborhoods. At the beginning, he used to encourage AAs how new arrivals who happened to be black people are opening businesses and the solution to inner city is entrepreneurship and black people creating businesses in their neighborhoods. His problem is he learned the division of Somalis, and he played it to his advantage by ...... Did you hear the story of the Ethiopian guy who acts as a representative for East Afriacans and milk the system? The man behind him is mayor Coleman, according to my sources.

There were other issues as well but did not see facts, so don't want to accuse something that I can't proof!

Seems Columbus, OHIO is way behind the time if the first Somali Deputy Sheriff is being sworn in 2015.

Other cities and states were the first to do it.

In 2007, a Somali Deputy with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department was shot by a Mexican gang banger who was wanted on outstanding arrest warrant during a traffic stop.

And in 2010 the first Somali Chief of Police was appointed in South Carolina (or maybe NC, not sure), who was Barawaani btw. :)

Damn Somalis in OHIO are behind the times
