Bantus practice black magic to hurt people, they dance, pray, make offerings and sacrifices to their ancient gods and have shamans in the deep southern villages were Islam & Somali culture hasn't reached and their old languages are still spoken.

Somalis also practice Sixir, Saar and so on and make offerings, dances (goolo) to the spirits and talk to them to relief an ailment from a person, or they can use sixir or the spirit to hurt others.

In Islam, black magic is a crime that is worse than even killing someone.

The black magic stories that I heard are weird and dangerous. It is better not to give your mother's real name to people. Some black magicians combine your name with your mother's name. Apparently, they don't need your father's name.

The black magic practiced by Bantu tribes don't need your mother's last name, but it is done, as far as I know, either through food, or something they do to a tree. I asked this fellow Somali Bantu friend in backhome, and he has told me it is true but their elders won't teach their sons or nephews until they reach the age of forty. I think they use it for defensive means. Like PrinceNugaalAndHawd stated, the Somali Lamagoodle practice it too in a short scale.

Keep in mind this practice is found throughout Africa.

Black magic is basically planetary magic where you call on the spirits of the seven spheres(heavens/visible planets) to affect the physical world. Magic is not as simple as you may have been led to believe, it has it owns cosmology,philosophy, beliefs etc. Its based on babylonian ,Egyptian and greek astrology. The magician basically calls on a planet with malefic properties on a certain day and hour to harm someone, they also have white magic and they use benefic magic to "heal" and bring "luck". That's my basic understanding of Magic but there's lots more information you learn by doing a bit of research . But do not try practicing this stuff its dangerous for your health and iman.

I seen it when I was very young and it was only ones I can't remember the details

I heard the 'timoweyn' (Sufi sheikhs] are into this black magic stuff back home.

If black magic existed, you'd hear more than just rumor and superstition about it. Armies would use it, and warlords would go around terrorising and killing people for their own profit and power.

Gerigoor, I concur with most of what you've said. Black magic/sihr is real and it exists. I personally know of people who had sihr done on them and truly it is one of the most horrible things an individual could do to another, which is why the punishment for it is so severe in Islam. Engaging in black magic is an act of kufr and if you don't repent from it, it can take you outside the fold of Islam.

Believing in sihr, evil eye/al ayn and Jinn is part of Islam. You can't deny their existence because it is mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah. The cure for them is also in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
