To my understanding there are lots of Somalis indigenous to Kenya who have lived there for centuries, those are Sijui. There are also xabadi keentay Somalis from Somalia who have been living in Kenya for 20+ years or so, they ain't technically Sijui. I could be wrong tho.metamorphosis wrote:I thought sijui meant anyone who grew up in Kenya?

Re: Focking Sujuus
Exactly, if you are Somali Kenyan who was born or had lived there for a longtime, u are Sijue.metamorphosis wrote:I thought sijui meant anyone who grew up in Kenya?
I have a cousin who just recently came to the US. She was born in Nairobi in 1994 and she is Sacad. But we still call her Sijue.
Re: Focking Sujuus
The term Somali sujuu was coined by the running refugees from Somalia. They asked the first Somali Kenyans they met, war yee qolomaa tahay. They replied sijui which means I don't know.
They named them sujuis and the named stuck.
Basically the Somalis living in kenya knew nothing about qabiils prior to war in Somalia. Their counterparts on the other side of the border breathed and lived qabiil. It chased them away from the mother land. Therefore It was very surprising for them to see for the first time a Somali/s who knew nothing about qabiil or qabiils.
Sujui like I said means I don't know
They meant these( Somali Kenyans), they don't know their qabiil.
I hope it helped

The Somali Kenyans live in Garissa or the the little small villages in NFD that borders Somalia.AgentOfChaos wrote:To my understanding there are lots of Somalis indigenous to Kenya who have lived there for centuries, those are Sijui. The Xabadi Keento, or those who fled the war in Somalia lived mainly around Nairobi. And they are more successful than Somalis who lived in Kenya for ions.

before the influx of Reer Somalia
Somalis residing in NFDare not that different from other Somalis
Re: Focking Sujuus
Agreed but they lumped them together and gave all of them the same name.abdikarim86 wrote:I would add Siiju waxay ku kooban tahay urban Somali kenyans who lived thereCOOL-MAN wrote:The term Somali sujuu was coined by the running refugees from Somalia. You could be speaking the best Somali or know your qabiil from the heart but will still be referred to as sujui as long as you were born there.

Re: Focking Sujuus
Sujis was people Northerners who left the British Somaliland in the 1930,40,50ts etc and settled in major cities and towns what was then British East Africa ( after independence renamed Kenya ) to trade, be in the army, build the railway with the Indians and natives , they would be met by their relatives later on and was nicknamed Sujjuu meaning " I dont understand or I dont Know" when they could not understand their afsomali British Somaliland relatives. A person from NFD can never and was not a Sijuu as that region never was part of British east Africa , the region was allways meant to be included to the Somali republic and it was a big shock when the british after many agreements decided to not take into account the wishes of the somalis in NFD who always wanted unifying with the Somali Union republic 5 somaliyeed. The British left and President Kenyataa was not willing to give away one of the biggest Provinces of his newly acquired country. The British typical self-serving diplomats sais let African issue be solved by the african s.And So.Kenyataa decided to put NFD in a closed military curfew until the 80s as a foreign country and one the reason why the region is still so under funded compared to the Real Kenya. And intasi waa tariiq. U can not call a person from Somalia koonfur a sijui nor a Somaliland who in the last 25 years come kenya, as those people nicknamed sijuu already lived in the country 2-3 generations its like an east African Indians compared to a real indian who just came from India.

Lol @ getting angry cause the person you helped out was from the wrong qabiil. Gotta love Zoomalis

Re: Focking Sujuus
So let me get this straight, you're mad because you found the person you helped is from the wrong region and qabiil? So if your relative told you before hand would you turn your back on him? Smh.
You just discredited your ajar.

Re: Focking Sujuus
loo walaahi I can't stop laughing. warya guhad are you reer isaaq. what rooble said makes sense. there are few ogaden sujus . Sujus are almost entirely hail from british Somaliland protectorate. Ogadens in NFD are not different than typical ogs in Galbeed. they are not sujuus.
