I have been to Damascus in June 2010. Never seen a more hardworkin and accommodating people outside of afrika.

Assad is directly responsible for the radicalization of the rebel groups. At the start of the war there was a legitimate moderate opposition backed by the people but he released and funded extremists who exacerbated the civil war so he could paint the opposition as terrorists. He wanted to paint himself as the good guy fighting AL-Qeada and ISIS terrorists to rest of the world and he succeeded so now the world is being forced to work with him. That is why he has been so focused on the FSA and other moderate groups these past few years while avoiding the real terrorists like ISIS and Al-Nusra.
