For all we know Ethiopia may not exist by 2050. Somalia may turn into a stable country
with growing economy and 10 kids per couple or vice versa. No one knows the future. Just 50 years ago, Somalis
though they were turning into a regional power only to descend into a failed state.

No worry somalia can feed Max 100 million people,better use agriculture,Heavy use of the Fisheries,oil and gas Boom,irrigation farming of the entire south somalia is big enough for everyone.Balcad alone if properly equipped and irrigated can feed 12 million somalis which is the population of somalis today.

Somalis in the diaspora are now 1 million. They will grow to 10-20 million by 2050 because they have 5-10 kids. so total Somali population will be 60-70 millon

There is not enough arable land in Somalia to feed 33 million people.
Somalia only has about 1 million hectares of arable land. Skinnies will starve before reaching 20 million.

Nigeria on the other hand can easily reach 300 million if it achieves a green revolution like that of India in the 1960s. Ethiopia is mountainous and much of its farmland cannot be mechanized, same thing for Kenya.

Reality is that Somalis NEED security first and For most,with out Security,No body can do bussiness.the reason these famines,draughts happen is because the farming community stopped the activity for security reason.If we just have strong security apparatus on south-central regions ,good relations with Neighbouring Countries,then this is how somali can Feed 100 Million People.

improvement in Agriculture Technology,Irrigration and watering of areas that are suitable for farming but not used by the farmers since it is far away from the river which is the basic ingradient for farming,RAIN is only an option once a year.Before the Civil war,Balcad was the largest Cotton Producer,exporter in somalia proper.we are not only talking about food,but other producst of high value to export and generate Much needed Cash.
Fishing,i really admire PL,they are the only people who are Making Use of the Fishing Resources,No draught in Pl ever,it is part of their calture.
Pl alone has the capacity to have 180,000 Metric tons of Fish,Local consumption and Exporting is Good.The problem is Nobody /country is interested to Buy fish From Somalia,we can Convince Ethiopia To trade with Us.LOL,we import their products and export Fish products.
SL lags behind in terms OF fish technology then Pl,and Mogadishu,Kismayo are the only major areas where you could find people interested in fishing commercially .if we only invest 1 billion dollars in fishing technology from donar countries,we can easily make 2 billion dollar yearly thus increasing our GDP.We Need to re-start the somali commercial fishing Fleet and make use of the natural resources that we are bestowed upon.Even though fish is consumed in large quantities in somalia proper.
turkey now established a modern-solar powered fish-marine School in Mogadishu that studies somali marine life,teaches people how to fish artisanal,knowledge transfer and it has made many promises that it will help somalia reach a commercial fisher status.
Another thing is we need to spread the word that Fish is more nutritious than animal food and have More aphrodiastic property ,more healthy ,the japanese know about the benefits of Fish and they eat it RAW.lol so we dont need to worry we can easily feed 100 million people and more in future.

The reason Somalia did bad was because siad barre led somalia into an neccessary nationalistic war with Ethiopia which resulted in disaster depleted the countries national reserve,we somalis cant afford that,we need to live peacefully with ethiopia,and let go of this blunder policy against ethiopia,must invest in security,strong NSA army to protect the citizens,if and if there is no other way,then we can arm the rebels-insurgents there with out getting us into trouble.a wealthy nation is a stronger nation.

High death rate, low life expectancy and Somali Republic is just Somali ethnic unlike other countries, which are made up of multi-ethnics.

If you put Somalis against Amhara, Tigrai, Oromo, Kikuyu, Afar, Sidamo, Beja, Tigre, Gurage----they are big force with big land.

The problem is Somalis didn't absorb other ethnics apart from small Oromo (maximum 2 million today). Now compare that to Oromo. There is no true Oromo "Oromo". It is all absorbed ethnics and confederates of many tribes.

They absorbed and assimilated every ethnic they conquered or defeated.

If you take out the real Oromo they are no more than Borana.

In Oromo culture the oldest son is Borana and yet true Boranas are no more than 5 million but Oromo add all these fake branches which are nothing but people they conquered, converted and assimilated including Habesha, Nilotics, Cushitic groups including Sidamo, Afar, and even they stole many Somalis.

While Somalis conquered lands, Oromo conquered people and that's why today one has the vast land and the other vast population.

Before the 19th century the Somali population was very very tiny----no more than 4 million. By 1970s, the Somali Republic had no more than 7 million.

So you can imagine in the 15th century most likely Somalis were no more than Djibouti's population today.

It makes perfect sense. I, sometimes do wonder why the Oromo and the Amhara etc are so numerous compared to small ethnics but then they're just a collection of different ethnic groups who assimilated one tribes and another in the past.

The average Somali family have a lot of kids. Most I've encountered was 5-8. The other ethnics in the Horns do not produce as much as Somalis do.

So, I fail to figure out why their population is small? Even when their territories are bigger than the other ethnics?

Something is not right or is having kids is just common in the West and not Somalia?

Somalia's population was in the lower single digit millions a few decades ago. The growth base was much lower than Ethiopia because of the Malthusian restrictions on semi-arid nomadic regions before Western medicines were introduced.

Somalis are the second largest ethnic group in east africa and possess the largest territory out of all the ethnic groups. We must be doing something right.

populations with pastoral lifestyle have enormous amount of land, like the Mongols, Kazakh, and the somali. However most of the land is desert, which explains why sedentary people didn't displace/replace the population.
