Yeah they have their own language , anigu kuwa ra'isleyaal ah baan habeen meel gidaar ah ku la qayilay Hargeysa . Waxay yihiin ba maan garanayn , it was like 11 at night , dark . Isgoyska jaamac gunti baan socday oo rag gidaar fadhiya ayuun baan maqlay . Thinking somebody I know baa malaha meesha jooga , waan ku soo baydhay oo waan iska fadhistay intaan bacdeydi qaat ka kala soo baxay jeebka . Yab ! waan waraystay deetana oo ku idhi 'war de anigu iska reer jabuti baan ahay e bal ii sheega afkanaad ku hadlaysaan " ...way i sheegeen " waxaynu nahay dadkanaad ka yeestaan " bay igu yidhahdeen . Damn I felt obliged to stay there longer then I wanted , si anay isu odhan , another arrogant mothefucker

plus many gabooyes (the general minority umbrella) have soft hair and twisted tongue (Carab, la,a) .X.Playa wrote:My theory is that Midgans ( which Muuse Dheriyo is a sub clan) were originally a Bushmen a hunterer gatherer society like those in Southern Africa. The fact they speak different language and can't pronounce some Somali words explains " twisted tongue" ,

The Yibir , are more mysterious and number the least , I have no evidence to believe the common myth that they were originally Jews, the Yibirs are medicine men by traditions , they perform magic rituals and such.
The Tumaal is a black smith, and probably of Somali origin . weather they use to be Daarood sub clan or not , they are of a Somali origin, both the Yibir and Midgans have their own language . Iam not sure of the Tumaal. But the fact these people have their own language eliminates any Somali origin of them.
ITs a matter of prespective,
you are looking at history from the point of view of camel herding patraichal clans , the victors.
and the victors write history.
There is evidence of urban and agricultural settlements from awdal all the way to sanaag,
there are abandoned ancient towns in awdal that were very large, and i have seen with my own eyes in ceelafwen what was a grinding stone for grains,
that looks identical to those found in mali and sudan.
ceelafweyn is camel herding reer badiyo central,
this is a sign that ancient people farmed grains, hundreds of years ago.
These people were somalis, not oromos
the lazy excuse somalis use when anything is ancinet is oromos, when they were also semi nomadic cattle herders all the way in the deep south in todays borana zone and parts of bale and only reached somali lands in the 1560's duing the first gadaa expansion wave.
The earlier one failed when they hit the stable and powerful ajuran sultanate.
They moved north when the muslim-christian wars ended both sides in exhaustion.
It is highly likely that there were several different groups of people speaking a somali language similiar to todays maxa tiri langauge in the north. The languages were probably as different as maay and tunni are to maxa tiri.
These are the people of punt, that were sohpisticated and urban and agricultural.
They were invaded and defeated by camel herding nomads who were led by what became the somali clans of today,
some of the native people were assimilated into the flexible clan system, while others were enslaved.
the enslaved became the midgaans/yibir/tumal.
Nomads everywhere in history have been antagonistic to settled people, they have enslaved them before, the arab nomads did the same to settled people.
Modern times have softened this attitude today, but even in1920's sharif hussien bin ali, of the hashemites, who spoke several languages and was educated and working in istanbul, had the attitude of his tribe seeing the settled farmers and towns people of palestine as useless scum,
nothing more than slaves and prefered to work with the jewish settlers as they were more honourable.
The clan system of somalis today is the system of those who conquered and destroyed the civilization of other somali speaking peoples,
environmental change with desertification and the severe drought period starting around africa in the 1400's
probably had some impact as well, making it easier for the camel herders to defeat the cattle herders and farmers.

I can't comment about the high-cheek theory. I will research further and look peoples' faces more intently next time. The Gabooye people I knew from Daami of Hargeisa were mainly Muuse Dhariye and looked indistinguishably like the average Hargeisawi. One thing you might be right about is the Gabooye's bellow average heights but that does not necessarily explain their ancestry. Stature is better explained by group's current and past nutrition and health. It is common knowledge that Gabooye were always poorer which meant less food availability to them and lived in urban areas which meant relative bad health conditions and hence a better explanation for their short stature.X.Playa wrote:My theory is that Midgans ( which Muuse Dheriyo is a sub clan) were originally a Bushmen a hunterer gatherer society like those in Southern Africa. Of course genetics play a role in determining human height, but we should ask ourselves this question___ where did genetically tall groups get their good genes from? were their ancestors several generations ago also tall like them?
To answer this take an example of Netherlands case, the tallest nation in the world today. They were incidentally the shortest in Europe and perhaps in the world in just 150 years ago. Their average male height was 164cm around 1870s and today their average height is 184cm. Their male gained 8 inches on average in just 150 years, towering their great great grand parents. What has changed since ancestry didn't change?
Nutrition, health, and perhaps tall people having more children is a good explanation.

Scientifically children who start drugs at younger age don't grow as fast as those who don't use drugs. Gaboye community are well-known heavy drug users, I mean khat cigarettes, hashish, shisha iwm
