A smart strategy for Villa Somalia:

Let the effeminate Arabs spend millions to upgrade a dilapidated port, claim it is part and parcel of a sovereign nation, Somalia, and take them to court. World bodies would force Villa Somalia and Villa Morgan to share port revenue. That is what a strategic thinker would do.

It's in nobody's interest to choke off the s/l economy.
The SFG has it's red lines that can't be crossed e.g resource extraction etc.
A number of companies have already been warned off. :)

No hate here, merely pointing out the obvious. I am just shedding light on international jurisprudence on the subject.

Btw, the word you are looking for is "insignificance", and nothing could be farther from the truth. Djibouti will always be relevant to whom it matters, China and the rest are investing over $15 billion in the next decade.

The thing Berbera and SL have over Djibouti is land.

Whatever the case it's clear Djib will come under the Chinese and UAE needs new ports to keep its interests in Africa. Naturally that meant going few hundred km down.

The port is done deal and this weekend SL n DP sign official hand over.

A delegation including Saad Ali Shire and Horhor left SL today for Dubai.

Within a year a new terminal will be completed worth $170m.

Djibouti is many decades ahead but now it will have some competition unlike the 1980 port we currently have.
The Chinese just seem to be attracted to Africa.
It's called Imperialism.

awrastaale always bootyclapping for amhara ripping off somaliland. you know this investment is robbery right?

the port brings 80% of sland revenues each year ~ $150m in FY2015/2016, after the investment sland will lose all that money and will only recieve less than $20m each. sland will be losing billion dollars during this 30 year deal, even if berbera port manages to handle 20% percent of ethiopias trade! sland will lose its meagre budget and that means more taxes and inflation. the public will pay the price. its a no brainer.
its not only berbera folks against the deal its all sland intellectuals, businessmen and salaadiinta beelaha odhan.
and the fact that 16% share is owned by abdirahman boreh and siilanyo family makes it clear it aint a deal by sland gov. if DP World takes 51% sland gov should have the other half in full and all proceeds must be audited by independent accountants and then must be deposited to the central bank.
and most importantly the deal must be debated in the parliament and all agreement be studied by the public. i dont think that will happen cuz every one knows this is really shady business deal.

anyway if you know something we dont yet, tell us why do you think this is good for sland. have you seen the investment memorandum?

People against the port deal are very short sighted or unable to comprehend simple logic.

A port is like any other other machine, and without maintenance will go into disrepair. Regardless of what money is being made today sooner or later the whole machine will cease to function. Sort of like a car that's not been well maintained. What DP are offering maybe won't be a huge sum when you compare it to the amount of money the port produces today. However a well maintained port will guarantee a steady stream of income offer a much longer period..

I support the economic relations between the somali peninsula and the Arabian peninsula also wish all development for all somali lands

Having said that, I'm not fun of the UAE in general and the DP world has been kicked out from yemen, in judicial dispute with djibouti so I don't think djibouti cares about it

As independent country, jibouti has many options and now is after the generous Chinese companies, Saudi Arabia investments after helping out yemen, oil piplines from the landlocked south sudan and ethiopia

This will impect well on djiboutis economy and it's less than a million population as it's economic growth rate jumped last year from 3% to 6%

How djibouti is moving forward with new chinese tanks, the old French tanks and US humvee...watch from 45 where is gurey to tell as about these police vehicles?
