I agree with what Tuushi said, it is difficult to learn about our history because a lot of it does involve qabil.

My parents, like Aisha's taught us that Somalidu waa umad wada walaalo o yara kala dhaqan duwan for some parts but nonetheless walaaloyin but even with that said when I watch certain stuff online or read certain stuff (solid stuff) it's extremely difficult for me not to feel some type of way, obviously shaydankan iska naara and like my Hooyo says mar walba wana Ilaahay loo noqdo

But this is the problem, waalidku can't control what info your child comes across, so I guess what it all comes down to really is how to digest things as and individual and how you want to perceive things

Save for a few generalities, much of the Somali history I know, I learnt through my own research.



The things that helped me shape an identity as a Somali, was more the stories, the poetry, the gabay/maah maah that the older folks shared.


Im more saddened that I won't be able to pass that down. If anyone has written resources, particularly about stories in Somali, please share.

No need to apologize, love.

No need to teach your kids about any qabiil. Personally I'm not gonna teach my kids about qabiil at all (until they are old enough), and when they are old enough to understand what it is, I will give them the general rulings in our culture.

Things like Qaaraan, Magta in la bixiyo, in mar marka qarkood Soomalida isku dilaan uuna yahay dhaqan soo jireen (aano qabiil), inay si caqli ku dhisan u fahmaan aysan weligood qofna ku takoorin.

Apart from that I will teach them that all Somalis are brothers and sisters and that they should respect everyone based on their character and not Qabiil.

My good friend jaale you are right but "the way of the Awr" still lives on, it might be as authentic but there is a resurgence.

I know you love your Awr and the idea of geel becoming obsolete is scary sxb but the Sooner you come to term with it the better.

How about picking up taxidermy and stuff every awr that pass away You could have your own museum, and call it Maandeeq.
