Some yes, but not all Somalis shop owners who were at the receiving end of the hate crimes lived in those areas you described.

There are many of them who are Muslim and very modest. We should not generalise.

As for somalis who have businesses in townships, then they've made a killing by operating these small shops. I met some south African Muslim brothers who came straight from Johannesburg and they were all quite impressed with how well we had done for ourselves. Guys who came broke are now living it up and have several businesses.

Somalis are not afraid of getting their hands dirty and taking huge risks by operating in impoverished areas if there's money to be made.
