I'm glad some have picked up on the political, social, and economic discrimination against Shia minorities in the authoritarian state of Saudi Arabia. Consider the following:
" Members of the Shi’a minority are discriminated against in government employment…The Government restricts employment of Shi’a in the oil and petrochemical industries. The Government also discriminates against Shi’a in higher education through unofficial restrictions on the number of Shi’a admitted to universities.
Under the provisions of Shari’a law as practiced in the country, judges may discount the testimony of people who are not practicing Muslims or who do not adhere to the official interpretation of Islam…Testimony by Shi’a is often ignored in courts of law or is deemed to have less weight than testimony by Sunnis.
...The Government seldom permits private construction of Shi’a mosques. In March 2001, religious police reportedly closed a Shi’a mosque in Hofuf because it had been built without government permission." (see below)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_of_ ... udi_Arabia
This of course is just in Saudi Araibia. There are news bulletins every few months or so reporting the deaths of dozens of Shia worshippers ruthlessly gunned down by Sunni gunmen while at Friday prayers in Pakistan.
One need not look farther than the bloodshed of Iraq to see the restraint and perseverance displayed by the Shia community in the face of unyielding Sunni violence.
There have been thousands of Shias murdered while going about their daily preoccupations especially at mass religious gatherings by extremist Sunnis who view them as non-Muslims. Yet the Shia population to their enormous credit has by and large refused to retaliate against their aggressors even though it is they that represent the majority, and could if they wanted to crush the Sunnis at a moment’s notice. The relative pacifism of the Shia is manifest in the fatwas decreed by influential Shia clerics such as Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani instructing the Shias not to retaliate and seek vengeance against extremist Sunni elements that attack them.
It's evident to all objective and unbiased persons who are the aggressors and the victims of this case.

Mowhawk,
Can we Muslims reach each other and seek support among ourselves and leave Allah to judge who is on the right path and who is not? Or, we rather self-destruct through American and Israeli design? I believe that Muslim youths should overcome this debilitating and self destructing issue and ignore our schools of thought, whether we follow shia or sunni and unite.
I feel you bro, MUSLIMS should stop looking at minor differences between them and unite instead of working against each other. But I'm not talking about great differences in caqiida. Many of persians (including their ayatollahs) and iraqi shi'as are raafidiis (extreme-shi'as) and these people really don't have much to do with Islam we know. They worship their imams, curse sahabas and make disgusting lies about Allah (swt). How can we unite with these people and unite on what? We have nothing in common. As well we could unite with bahai's or druzes.
I'm not generalizing all shi'as because there are some among them that are near mainstream Islam, like shi'as in Yemen and Saudia for example and with them we don't have so many differences.

Bro, the Muslim world deals with God hating regimes like China, and why can't they deal with each other? Both sides are led by extremists who are mainpulating a historical Muslim divission to their advantage, and I reckon the non-Middle Eastern Muslims should look up to a country like Malaysia. I hope they come to their senses and spare themselves ripping each other apart.
Law
Bro, you are so mean and angry that it is nearly blinding your judgement. Why can't we discuss issues like mature people and avoid name calling? Let us not personalize this issue.

Assalamu 'Alaikum,
Sunnis don't hate them, what we hate is the bid'ah and how they insult the companions of our beloved Prophet (saw) and mother's of the believers.
Mowhawk, Sunnis/salafis did not divide from any of these sects...it's these sects who have divided from the true path, the path our beloved Prophet (saw) and his companions were on!
Unite? What? unite with people who insult the companions? unite with people who indulge in bid'ah? Please, that will be the same as supporting that which is haram!

Most Shias don't "insult the companions of our beloved Prophet (saw) and mother's of the believers."
Hatred only breeds injustices, oppression, murder and the cruel bombing of Muslims praying in their mosques. If they are on the wrong path, why don't we let Allah SWT judge and punish them? In these tough times, who benefits from Muslims killing each other? Sometimes we have to use our heads and question if hatred and war among Muslims is beneficial to the general good of Muslims, and it is time for both sides to cease hostilities. If they can't unite, at-least try to tolerate each other. We tolerate the devil himself, why can't we tolerate each other? Our prophet pbuh was no shia, or sunni but a messenger of Allah SWT and brought Islam to mankind and called himself a Muslim. Let Allah SWT alone be the judge those whoever "indulges in bida".

Assalamu 'Alaikum,
{Hatred only breeds injustices, oppression, murder and the cruel bombing of Muslims praying in their mosques.}
Now I'm assuming here you're refering to what's happening in Iraq, right? My question is uncle Mow, do you seriously believe that Muslims (particularly sunnis) are behind these bombings? If so, do you have any proof?
{If they are on the wrong path, why don't we let Allah SWT judge and punish them?}
Truth is clear from error! Saying that shi'as or what shi'as (or atleast the majority) believe in and follow is not from the Qur'an nor the sunnah of our beloved Prophet (saw) is the simple truth! Here is an idea uncle Mow, study the Qur'an and Sunnah and then read the books MOST shi'as value, believe in and follow. Come back to me and tell what you think!
The Messenger of Allaah said: "I counsel you to have Taqwaa of Allaah and to hear and obey, even if an Abyssinian slave were to command you. For, verily, whoever amongst you lives (to grown old), he will see many differences. So stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khaleefahs. Cling tightly onto it and hold onto it with your molar teeth. And beware of newly invented matters. For, indeed, every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is a thing that leads astray, and everything that leads astray is in the Hellfire."
And he also said: "Indeed those from before you from the People of the Book divided into seventy-two groups. And, indeed, this group (Muslims) will divide into seventy-three. Seventy-two groups will be in the Hellfire and one of them will be in Paradise. And it is the Jamaa'ah (group)."
And in another narration, he said: "Everyone of them in the Hellfire, except for one group that which I and my companions are upon."
Ibn Mas'ood said: "The Messenger of Allaah drew a line for us and then said: 'This is the Straight Path of Allaah.' And he drew lines on the left and right of it, and then said: 'These are paths of which there is not one except that there is a devil upon it calling towards it.' Then he recited the statements of Allaah 5: 'And verily, this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and do not follow (other) paths for they will separate you away from His path."
{In these tough times, who benefits from Muslims killing each other?}
Again, if you are refering to what's happening in Iraq...where is your proof that these bombings were done by Muslims?
For example, the latest bombings was susposedly commit by some Muslims (men) dressed as women...now any sane Muslim knows that this is forbidden not to mention killing other Muslims!
{Our prophet pbuh was no shia, or sunni but a messenger of Allah SWT and brought Islam to mankind and called himself a Muslim.}
LOL! Uncle Mow, do you know the definition of "Sunni"?
BTW, you should come down to Lakemba...they've these Islamic courses (Shari'ah course) starting. It starts this Saturday, if you are interested and would like some more info let me know Insh'Allah

Thanks sister for the reply, and I only wish Muslims could tolerate each other and prosper. Thanks for the invite, but I'm quiet content and at peace with myself and tolerate all Muslims. Mosque bombings are taking place in Iraq and Pakistan, and the bombers come from both sides of the equation. That is a fact sister, and these kinds of acts must be the lowest a Muslim can reach.
They call themselves ahlu-bayt and we call ourselves ahlu sunna, but we all believe in Allah SWT and the message of the prophet saw. In my humble opinion, I'm happy just to be a Muslim, beyond that, I resist to be controlled by other men in the name of a sect. No pun intended sister, but that is how I think.

we somalis have nothing in common too.
we probably hail from different tribe, so given the right circumstances me and you could be enemies at the drop of a hat.
they are god's creation and fellow muslims. not perfect by all means and even if they are following what we think or see it as wrong teaching, they and everyone else will be acountable to the headmaster up in heaven.

Hey poster,
You have Salahuddiin as a nickname.
Does it mean you are proud of him as a Mujahid?
So do Arab Sunni’s, but they hate his people (the Kurds).
No Arab leader ever spoke about their sufferings.
No Arab media brought their story forth.
Its no wonder that Somali Wahabists (who were trained in Saudi Arabia) spread hatred of Shia’s and Kurds among Somalians.
Islam does not teach to hate them. So don’t take that part of their teaching.

Bro I don't care about tribes, all of them are same to me and I could never be someone's enemy just because of his tribe/race. I wish that somalis could see that we are all muslims.
"they are god's creation and fellow muslims. not perfect by all means and even if they are following what we think or see it as wrong teaching, they and everyone else will be acountable to the headmaster up in heaven."
Person who worships a person like they (raafidiis) worship their imams is not a muslim but a mushrik = worse than christians and jews. On top of that they have throughout their history been steadfast enemy of sunnis til this day. I wish end to this killing so there would be peace but it's not anyway possible that sunnis and shi'as could ever unite. Tirmidhi narrates on the authority of ibn 'Abbas that the Holy Prophet (scws) said: "My ummah will never unite on error. The hand of Allah is with the majority, whoever isolates himself will be flung into the fire." Majority means the sahaba and the path they were on. So it's not going to happen that ummah of Muhammad (scws) will unite with raafidiis.
Same
I didn't say anything about kurds so why you bring this up? Salahuddiin Yuusuf Ibn Ayuub was a great mujahid and a muslim hero. Nowadays most of them are secular but there are some good kurds also. The problems between arabs and kurds are because of land, and it's not only with arabs; persians and turks too. If you talk about the famous Anfal campaign by Saddam's regime it hasn't got much to do with ethnicity. Kurds allied with Iran and fighted against Saddam and that's why they were target of these operations (I'm not defending Saddam in anyway).
"Its no wonder that Somali Wahabists (who were trained in Saudi Arabia) spread hatred of Shia’s and Kurds among Somalians."
99% of the people I mix with are somalis and I've never heard anyone bashing kurds particularly. Neither did I with "wahhabis." I guess you go out with nationalistic turks and ba'athists. But I don't know why you brought up kurds?

Salhudeen please refrain from slandering the Kurds.
Just becuase they have not been caught up by the Muslim revival of the 70's does not mean that they are secualr.
ask yourself were your parents secular?
when your parents generation was growing up the burqa, and niqab were rare oddities, and it was not uncommon to see a woman unveild, in Most mulsim countries.
The Kurds are in that same stage as we we and many others were in the past.
