Dominique, there is a huge lie that Yemen is somehow supporting the Islamic courts. The Yemen government was supporting Abduallhi Yusuf from the start. They funded his campaign for presidency. The son of the president of Yemen is a business partner of Abdullahi Yusuf. The Yemen have built the Baidoa airport in support of Abduallhi Yusuf. The airport, which has been used to smuggle weapons from Ethiopia and no doubt Yemen. So, I donÂ’t know where you people are getting this information that Yemen is supporting the courts. Yemen is a country that has been used by the Americans to torture many suspected terrorists. A country that watches Somalis dying in the sea and does nothing, a country that is doing everything to just get rid of the refugees in its soil. The Eritreans although see the Islamic courts as a potential ally and support anyone opposing the Ethiopian government, they do not fund the courts neither. They are like Osama Bin Laden, they would want to just rub salt to the wound of their enemies.
The courts are the foot soldiers of the Somali civil societies, intellectuals, business community and individuals all over the world. Mainly young people who have decided enough is enough and decided to come together and do something to counter the total destruction, humiliation and suffering of the Somali people. Some of them are the same people who were behind diplomatic efforts in Kenya and Djibouti which crashed the hopes of many Somalis. They have realised an inactive government built by warlords for warlords is not going to get Somalia out of darkness and have decided to take actions against the warlords who have caused the people suffering and pain. The future generations of Somalis would never have forgiven them had they continued to watch the injustice and humiliation of our people.

Eyes only, I would love to see Somalia be ONE, however, I don't want my relatives back home to go to prison for watching an "I Love Lucy" rerun. These guys are insane and want a extremist type of government in Somalia. I don't mind an Islamic government, but when you are shooting kids for watching the World Cup, which is a passion of many Somali youths, and arrest grown men and women for watching simple movies, you have crossed the line. Not even Saudi Arabia does that, and they have been better Muslims than Somalis.
About Eritrea backing up the ICU, as of right now, they are doing the most to sustain them with weapons and funding them what ever money they have. I do agree with you on why they are doing this, to put salt on Ethiopia's wounds.

In working with regional groups and the international community, the US accepts the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) as Somalia's only legitimate governing body, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer said. "We speak with one voice, I believe, except for Eritrea, in opposing an extremist Islamist takeover of the government in Somalia.
The TFG has been challenged in asserting itself in Somalia. Unable to move to Mogadisho which now is under the control of the Council of Islamic Courts of Somalia (CICS), the TFG is now even threatened by the latter of losing its seat in Baidowa.
In the hope of bolstering the transitional government's strength, the African Union (AU), the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD)and the United Nations (UN) and the Arab League deliberated on the matter and came to a consensus that a peace mission needs to be sent into Somalia and that the arms embargo imposed on the country be eased.
Frazer also told a senate subcommittee that the UN, AU and the Arab League view the TFG as a legitimate governing body.
Eritrea, however, which has been supporting the CICS and more specifically the extremist elements, has explicitly stated its support for the Islamic Courts and challenged accusations of terrorism against the fundamentalist groups within the council.
"If it is the issue of 'terrorism' that has been the topic of discussion regarding the Somali issue, solid evidence should be presented to prove this as is the case in London, Madrid and New York. Otherwise, it is completely unacceptable if it is meant to engage the Somali people in a cycle of endless crisis," Isaias said.
Ethiopia has said that the Al-Ithihad elements which now are also in position of leadership in the CICS were a threat to its national security and cites a series of attacks in Addis Ababa in the late 90s.
An arms embargo monitoring group mandated by the UN Security Council reported that Eritrea has been arming Hassan Dahir Aweys - the founder of Al-Itihad Al-Islami - and other Ethiopian ethnic dissident groups operating from within Somalia.
Eritrea in what it terms as "a brotherly obligation" to the people of Somalia has been vigorously lobbying for support around the region.
Isaias and Eritrea's military officials have been paying visits and holding talks with regional counterparts.
On Monday, Eritrea's defence minister was in Djibouti holding talks with the President of that country and its military officials. There are no official reports, however, that the meeting had to do with Somalia.
Isaias has also been paying visits to Yemen and Sudan holding talks on the issue of Somalia.
Isaias claims that discussions related to Somalia were held within the framework Eritrea has been lobbying for.
Yemen has offered to mediate in the talks between the TFG and the CICS.
The CICS is strongly opposed to the idea of a peace mission being sent into Somalia.

Dominique, there is a difference between individual cases enforced by individual courts that consider themselves as upholding morality and the enire movement. If you bothered to follow that story you would have realised that the individuals arrested were released and the leaders of the courts have worked to influence the courts to be more lenient in such cases which they have thus far responded positively to. What you are doing is judging the entire movement on the activities of individuals. Why havenÂ’t you mentioned their work of peace, why havenÂ’t you mentioned their on going work of restoring hygiene and cleanliness to our capital? Why havenÂ’t you mentioned the delivery of humanitarian aid to balcad which hasnÂ’t seen such help for ten years? These patriotic individuals are working day and night to restore respect, peace and humanity to our people and our land. Anyone that wants to bring war and destruction back to the people and supports foreign invasion and occupation is a traitor and should be pointed out as that. We realise that Puntland enjoys some semblance of peace and those clans hailing from those regions that want more suffering inflicted on the people should refrain and start acting like muslims.
The reports you quoted are made by people with no interest in Somalia and the Somali people. People that have decided to ignore Somalia and have just regained interest to extend their war with Islam and Muslims. This is not something Somalis and muslims should be supporting.

My father told me as a young child to believe in half what I see and disbelieve all of what I hear. Show me some kind of links to what your saying so I can at least see and believe in half of what ur saying.

I see you have not been reading and listening much. Maybe you should ask your dad hun. The airport has been opened, all roads that were blocked have been opened. The Isbaaros have been removed. Just as we speak, the local community in Muqdisho is working to clean the major roads in the capital (listen to the BBC).

Dominique,
You sound like you have been misled by the campaign of demonizing & villifying the Courts. I remember as a kid growing up in Mogadishu I used to hear all kinds of rumors about "Akhwaanka" a claim that aabaha gabadhiisa ayuu weysada ka jibiyaa, the issue about the women with the jalbaab, etc.
Today's villifying campaign is even more ridiculous. For example, they banned the world cup There are propably thousands of Television sets in Somalia, no one can ban the world cup. What you heard was a hyped up story. A group of men, who may or may not have been part of a court in Mogadishu went to a hall showing the world cup, got in to a fight and someone died. Does that make it the official position of the UIC? Obviously No.
Another accusation is they closed Cinemas & are banning movies. This is untrue, there are countless video halls that show Hindi movies that have not been touched, not to mention rental places. The only ones they have closed so far are known places for showing pornography.
I have an aunt who lives in Towfiq & she told me that the residents of her neighborhood, especially mothers are the ones who went to the Siinaay court & asked something be done because these halls allowed children to watch pornography, including homosexual porn.
Anyone with 2000 shillings can get in to these halls and watch porn. Where is morality & ethics? What sort of adults will these kids grow up to be? Probably child molesters & rapists. What kind of a man opens these places & lets children watch such filth? I was really stunned that my 60 year old aunt even knew what porn was, then she said "Xitaa, niman wasaq sameyneya ayey maalin walba daaraan." Subhannallah!
I am grateful to anyone who stops such filth. I ask Allah to keep us all on the right path & protect us from the evil that is around us, aameen.
