Wizards gotta get this game then ALL the pressure goes on Indiana. Infact I think this would cause Indiana to choke.

Re: NBA 2013-2014 Season Thread
Wizards lose at home AGAIN. So disappointing and typical Wizards to win Game 5 on the road in huge fashion and lay an egg at home.
After Beal put up the Wiz 74-73, the Pacers went on a 17-2 run to close it out
Miami is going to beat them in 5.
The Spurs better beat OKC. I really do not like the Thunder. It's a bad brand of isolation basketball and they run no system.

Re: NBA 2013-2014 Season Thread
Even though the Wizards took a huge step forward, I think they should be slightly dissapointed in their season. It doesn't matter that they were the 5 seed and Indiana was the 1 seed. The Wiz are more talented at EVERY position other than SF and even at SF there is not a huge diference between Ariza and George. I also don't understand why the Wiz were playing tight and nerveous When there was no pressure on them to win whatsoever. Its one thing if they lost a game 7 at Indiana but to lose at home in game 6 when You have not had a game 7 since the '70s? Come on.
As for OKC they are the most boneheaded, low basketball iq team in the NBA but they have 2 players in KD and Westbrook that teams have no matchup for whatsoever. There is no PG that can matchup or contain a Russel Westbrook today. There is no SF Lebron included that can guard KD. San Antonio even moreso, is going to have major, major problems with Westbrook.

The Wizards always do the most unexpected things. The franchise still hasn't won a home playoff game in the 2nd round since 1979!!!Murax wrote:Even though the Wizards took a huge step forward, I think they should be slightly dissapointed in their season. After Beal put them up with that 3 pointer with 8 minutes left, the Wizards just started forcing shots, turning it over with charges, and the refs held their whistles when Wall drove at Hibbert due to the "verticality rule".
It was pretty disappointing. I'd have been fine losing Game 7 @ Indiana in that fashion but you gotta win Game 6 in your gym. Just execute and attack under control like in Game 5.
Nene showed no heart. He let West do whatever he wanted and Wittman made no adjustments to shakeup the two man game that Stephenson/West were running which led to the 17-2 run to close the game
Wizards need a real coach in there to help Wall mature and become the attacking guard he has to be to become a superstar. Wall is now a game manager and rarely attacks and settles for jumpshots even more this year. Last spring, he was playing like a top 5 player when he got healthy and was cooking niggas... albeit there wasn't anything on the line. But he did showup in Game 5 which was encouraging. If Indiana had lost, they would have been shook on Sunday. David West pretty much said that in the post game.
And with regards to OKC, they play a bad brand of basketball. Too much isolation, too much chucking, and Westbrook/Durant are getting bailed out by the refs in a lot of these games. The Grizzlies pretty much provided the blueprint on how to beat them. You have to slow the game down, make them chuck up horrible shots, and keep them in front of you. Also, you can't turn it over.
The Spurs have two capable athletics wings in Green and Leonard to stick on those two and they haven't shot well when those two are guarding them. Parker will have to be healthy, Duncan will be Duncan, but will Ginobili show up or turn it over a lot?
I think the Spurs are much better than they were in 2012 when they lost to OKC in a backdoor sweep. I don't think OKC is that good and their coach is horrible at making adjustments. He plays Perkins and Fisher over capable young guys.
I hope Spurs win, much rather see them play Miami again rather than a OKC-MIA re-match which will be horrible as the Heat LOVE playing teams that don't move the ball.
Re: NBA 2013-2014 Season Thread
FAH,
I definitely agree, the Wizards need a more legit coach, however it is impossible to do that now. Say what You want about Whittman but it would send the wrong message for the Wizards to fire a coach who got them into the 2nd round after not making the playoffs for all those seasons. Wizards should have fired Him a long time ago. As for Wall, His shot is just broken. Indiana packs the paint, and no matter how fast You are, if the referees know that You are forcing the issue driving because You have no confidence in Your jumpshot they will adjust and swallow their whistle rather then just bail You out. Good defensive teams will take away the wide open 3, and the uncontested drives and if you're gonna be a good offensive player You gotta be able to make the inbetween shots, floaters, etc. and its obvious Wall cannot do that consistantly now. If You're the Wizards next year has to be ECF or bust.
As for OKC, I agree San Antonio should beat them this year as they are better than they were the last time they played them. Still though, San Antonio has to be really, really concerned. They do not have a Tony Allen to harass Durant. They do not have a Deandre Jordan who is going to go out and grab 20 plus boards, swat or intimidate 5-10 shots a game. Defensively the Clippers, Grizzlies were able to present some challenges to OKC but against San Antonio I see some unfavorable matchups. Duncan/Splitter will see 2 great physical interior defenders in Ibaka/Perkins. I don't think Kawai Leanord could deal with KD right now, and its downright scary thinking about what Westbrook might do to Parker, and the Spurs unathletic PG's.

Wittman has no contract for next year. They can let him walk and hire a new staff. Which is what I hope Leonsis does.Murax wrote:FAH,

Wall has to get better offensively, there's no question. I thought he made the jump last year but this year he didn't progress as much as I thought.
Beal has to be better with his ball handling and shot selection too.
Splitter has been playing really, really well in the playoffs defending the rim for the Spurs. Duncan is still Duncan, they have the rim protection and Duncan will continue getting rebounds.
The Spurs should be concerned but Kwahi Leonard on Durant isn't a huge mismatch. KD is shooting 40% against Leonard when he guards him this year. By comparison, he shot in the 30s against Tony Allen and 41% against Prince. Leonard is still very young but he's improved a lot. If he's frustrating LeBron on the biggest stage, I expect him to play tough on Durant. The problem is, the Spurs don't have that 3rd defensive wing off the bench. Ginobili is still decent defender but his age will show in this series and he can't check the Thunder duo.
The game Leonard broke his hand, Durant was struggling. The minute Leonard is injured, KD erupts.
The last matchup in the regular season, Durant was struggling with Leonard. The refs give Leonard 3 fouls early and Durant goes crazy when Leonard is off the floor.
You're underestimating the impact Leonard brings to them.
Then again, Durant STRUGGLES with smaller defender because he can't post up
Leonard/Green are good enough defenders IMO, the depth behind them is bad because Patty Mills isn't a defender and Belinelli can't guard anyone either. The Spurs really don't have a backup SF.
Duncan and Splitter will have to keep outworking people and be the more physical duo.
I think Pop will also play small ball vs. a Perkins lineup because Brooks is slow to adjust his lineups. Diaw at the 4 and Duncan at the 5.
Re: NBA 2013-2014 Season Thread
Ibaka is out for the rest of the playoffs so it's a good thing for the Spurs. I have them winning it all and no one will stop them.
