There was shelling in Xamar by the Barre regime before it left. There was house to house search and murder of prominent nonDarood by the Red Berets. The atmosphere was poisoned and the Barre regime (including its Hawiye loyalists) saw that a Darood vs. Hawiye conflict was its only chance to regain power. If it was left to continue as a SPM-USC-SNM vs. Barre regime, the regime's chances were lost forever.

About the Galkacyo, the first massacres in Galkacyo against the Sacad were conducted by the Somali National Army under Dhagabecyr, a Marexan along with Dhaforqiid (Majeerten) with the full knowledge of the Barre government. This happened in late 1989 and was the first bloodletting in Mudug since 1982 when Siyaad Barre launched his army offensive against the Majeerten & their SSDF.

Before the 1989 massacres, there was no massacres of Majeerten by the Sacad and many Majeerten had sought safety in Sacad lands. The massacres at Wargaalo, Docol, Galkacyo and other tuulo were the defining moment that tipped the conflict into Southern Somalia and instruemental in the formation of the USC and defection of Caydiid from the government to lead the USC.

So the bloodletting was started by the Darood against the Habar Gidir in Mudug when Siyaad Barre was in full charge with his army ?

With so many atrocities committed all over Konfur, why cherry pick what happened in Xamar at the collapse of the regime ? Do you fail to acknowledge that the actions of the Armed forces of Barre were not crimes ?

To have true reconciliation, every party must understand the other's grievances . You have to admit and recognize the suffering committed by the Barre regime that lead to the formation of these rebel groups.

Why were Habar Gidir villages destroyed, hundreds of men, women and children massacred in cold blood by the Barre regime in November 1989 with the full support of the Darood in Mudug and Galgaduud ?

What were their crimes ? They were innocent civilians who did nothing wrong.
