Are you for real? Most of these kids are born in the west and havent really seen anything... All they need is a good parenting not a psychiatrist...

I did a control experiment with Somali kids a while back and kids who receive a lot of attention are the ones full of kibir, suuro, wild and generally cry a lot. Quite naturally Somali mothers are soft-hearted and would please their child by any means necessary and the child would depend on his behavior to make ends meet.

I remember babysitting one of my friend’s son, when the kid woke-up he started crying his heart-out for mommy. I went straight up to him and was like, look here lil nigga, you can cry all you want to, but I am not gonna treat with favor, kindness etc. 10 minutes later he crawl towards me and helped himself climbed the couch and finished watching the game with me. 8)

Good question there is no doubt they are wilder than other kids, I have seen it with my own eyes. I think the problem is the parents are parenting in the same style of their own parents which is innappropriate for the western world. In Somalia the mothers hardly had any "quality time" with kids and by the age of 5 or 6 you are practically independent, the day to day tasks associated with being a parent are shared between mother, extended family, jariyaad and the mother is able to have more free time, also they child is more mature and socially skilled at an earlier age from all these influences. Somali women in diaspora want to have that same luxury but its not possible, they just have to learn that they are responsible for every part of their child's devlopment and welfare, no more free rides!

When i was growing up especially in the earlier years of my childhood... My mothers word was more hurtful then any beating for some reason. My ol man was totally different… if you don’t hear it the first time the ‘Bakoorad’ will go swinging into the back of your head.

For some Somali families, beating and forcing their children to behave in a certain way has become a way of compromising.

I think hyper activeness have something to do with lack of freedom.

In somalia... We used to go out and wonder around ...get into all sort of trouble ..so when with family you’d less hurry to jump around as the energy with in has been used.

yes all children are susceptible to develop hyperactive disorders but it seems that our children are not being parented with orderly conduct when the said ailment becomes an issue. we simply feed, cloth and keep a roof over their heads, this isn’t enough, kids need to be exposed to various activities and playtime, and sadly they are not getting that… back home kids would go play outside or participate in various extracurricular activity outside the home, and most often this was done without the need of a parent’s supervision given the “takes a village to raise a child” atmosphere in effect in most parents minds. out here in the wild-wild west aka village of the damned….somali parents like most parents of other origins tend to keep their kids in close supervision and since Somali parents are too preoccupied with keeping their kids “safe” they keep em’ inside tiny apartments most of the time with no after school activities. because of this, our kids are playing out their frustrations in the home…that’s why whenever u go to a Somali family’s home with more then 3 kids..its practically destroyed …. not to mention how our kids go insane when they are let loose in public places.

Its not about quantity but quality.

That is why invest in schools and education for the Sacad school children in GalMudug.

My 2 kids plus another 100 school age children to benefit from me.

To be honest, there are too many children who are orphans or have poor parents who need the help.

The reason I am having only 2 kids is just to ensure carry my family name.
