You can't be serious. S. Barre, through the Land Reform Law of 1975 which nationalized all land that wasn't registered with the government, expropriated 10s of thousands of hectares of farmland that belonged to Bantus. These prime real estate were dished out not to farmers but to well connected government officials or their families/relatives. The result of this policy was sharp decline in agricultural output because the new tenants didn't actually farm but bought the land in order to resell it later at higher price. It was pure land speculation. This is not my unsubstantiated assertion, it is ascertained fact.
Most Bantus came to Somalia as slaves... the largest portion of these slaves were owned by Mudulood, Biimaal coming second. The Bimaal, Wacdaan and to a lesser extent Gaaljecel revolt against the Italians was driven by the issue of Slavery. Somalis wanted to keep their slaves after the Italians along the British banned slave trade and slavery. Somalis used these Bantu slaves to work on the farms because, being pastoralists, they disdained farming.

Geledi had away more slaves then Wacdaan and Biimaal. My greatgrandfather owned many slaves. Its a sad history, but hey we would of never had power if it weren't for them.

Shirib, you are right. Maay-maay speakers owned lots of slaves and most of them were nomadic oromos that were used to look after cattle and camels since they didn't know jack shit about farming. I heard there were even slaves in the 70s and 80s in Baydhabo!

Might be true, never heard it. Geledi, Wacdaan, Biimaal etc. slaves
The slaves of Shabelle, Geledi, Wacdaan, Biimaal slaves are actually apart of the normal society. They have been there for hundreds of years, and are Somali, what ever connection they had to Zanzibar is gone, but these Gosha Mushunguli guys are wierd. Not really apart of Somali society, were isolated.
The Geledi, Wacdaan, Biimaal slaves are fully apart of Somali society.

As a matter of fact Siyad Barre tried his best to overcome the stupid nasab dhiman/ Jareer stuff which was an unfortunate and unreligious act in our stupid culture...That is why he created the word Jaalle...
...[/quote]
No, he created the word "Jaalle" because he was a chimp who was mimicing socialism and copying the use of the word comrade by real communists! With his primitive, ill thought out scientific socialism..

Grant, somali people could be racist but so can the bantus.
In Kenya the Somalis are treated extremely bad and were often massacred if they demanded their rights in NFD.
Grant, in south Africa many innocent hardworking poor Somali's are killed by adoon south Africans because somalis look different.
Be fair to us grant, racism goes both ways.
Grant, please read this article

Everyone is coming out now with claims of "abuse" it seems. Could they have been in a worser situation than now, I highly doubt it.

Galia,
I know. But that doesn't change either the past or the present in Somalia. This is not tit-for-tat. I don't think most conscientious people can approve of any of it.
And please don't get me wrong. I am not pointing fingers at anybody at this point. It is important to understand what happened, but desireabale to go forward on a better footing. We have much the same situation on several ethnic fronts here in the States.
