Razzberry it is not as simple as you think it is.
People cant "just get up and leave". They went to another country deemed to be "safe" according to the UN and ended up in the middle of yet another cycle of violence.
They went there to get away from this drama and to just get up and leave, they need to be financially stable, aquire visas, passports, have a place to go, probably leave some family behind if they havent got enough money to get the whole family out, find a route to another country if no passports or visa's available, start another life etc etc etc.

I get where you are coming from. The thing is that people worlds away from africa know what SA is like. How could somalis not?

Razberry, it's not rocket sciense, South Africa is deemed to be a safe place.
If you're from a country of Conflict not forgetting that it has offically been declared as a failed State, any other country which is deemed to be safe is a big plus.
On top of that, the country is wealthy therefore there's a chance that you will be able to do something with yourself and dont have to worry about your hosue getting bombed or get your head shot in the city centre in broad daylight.

The problem they're facing over there is that the Somalis tend to open up small shops and various other businesses. In the poor areas where they conduct business, the south africans feel like they're stealing the money from up out of their mouths and them being locals, how can some foreign refugees come there and make more money than them?

The killings and violence usually happen in the poor areas.
