Most proud immigrants: Puerto Ricans, Nigerians, Cambodians <---------these fockers never pass on an opportunity to say what they are. Most insecure ones are the Cape Verdian, Hatian and Somali girls.

it's not really that's the only reason.
as some one some of my family members feel uncomfortable around somalis
or not claim somalinimo, when i asked or obsserved the reason is they dont know what somali stands for, they dont feel belonging due to their ignorent of the past or present.
all they say is: they are loud people, dont dress nice, talk to much, ask you why you dont speak somali.
somali culture and somalinimo is an alian to them.
then again my sisters are 15 years old and younnger and i think they will change their views when they grow, i hope.
there's a lot of rooms for them to grow and see the world differently.

myself i dont claim somali or deny being one and that's totally another story.
im not proud of anything, only thankful for being a muslim.

It is understandable intellectually why they do this. Colonised people have a crisis of confidence in them about their own culture as opposed to the "advanced culture" that colonised them. That is bad enough on its own to cause cuqdad but add to that the shame of Somalia being the example worldwide of a failed state and chaos.

The lack of basic things other countries take for granted, a passport that does not earn the contempt of immigration workers all over the world, sports stars and teams wearing your flag to get behind etc.. etc.. It is just humiliation after humiliation being a somali!

It takes a strong person to overcome all this humiliation..

what people here talking about are the kids teens who deny their somalinimo
because they simply dont know.
and the funny thing is the older generation are the ones who are proud whatever left to be proud of it.

True. Especially the part about people who came from colonised countries, i find them to have the lowest of confidence.

And your also right, it takes a strong person to be proud.

Aliyah spot on ..at this stage in my life i would see myself as a Strong Somali alxamdullilah but i wasnt always like that

In high school i knew couple of girls like that.. This one girl especially who lived on my block used to claim arab. ... Now that i think about it, i really feel sorry for those type of people..

i hate to be unfair to any one and steriotype or bad mouth any one because i havent seen all somalis
but as i can observe and make an opinion with time inshallah.
the other thing i liked about snowflakes821's first post is unlike others she understands where younger generation coming from and not put them all under: self haters.
some of them simply dont know anything and judge all somalis the few people they met outside their own family.
and believe me i hate when somali says why your father didnt teach you somali when they dont know about your family and they are strangers to talk to you like that!!.
you're somali doesnt mean you're my family adeer or eedo what i tell them.
