So, he was pro-Arab? However, how does supporting Arabs constitute a great achievement? What has he done locally to improve the standards of life, educational/health system, etc?Shilling wrote:one of the many things he did which stands out the must was the cancellation of his visit to Moscow in the wake of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, which sort of said to the USSR then that business wasn't going to as usual if they don't stand in favor for our Muslims brothers.

Re: One Event That Changed Somalia Forever
Haddad,
He was more then Pro-Arab - the man made sure to contribute in favor of the Arabs during the Arab-Israeli war, to show his solidarity with the people of Palestine he signed off on the deployment of 2000 Somali troops in showing Somalia's support to our Muslim brother in their hour of need, this was a fact that later guaranteed Somalia a spot in the Arab League. But to answer you question the man had many plans for Somalia, he was playing both the USSR and USA internationally in seeing who will benefit Somalia more, hence how the USSR become so supportive of Afweyne regime since unlike Sharmarke he was for communism...you could sort of say the USSR also had a hand his assassination. At the time he was assassinated he was touring the country to asses the standards of life Somalis were living...his life though ended before he could see the betterment of his people and soon after the constitution he so wholeheartedly fought for was suspended and with it also died the dream of SYL in seeing a democratic state.
Btw...If your so keen in learning this man's legacy just Google his name, I'm sure that will do him justice since there are more lengthy biography about his life.

No doubt, President Sharmake was an honourable individual who tried to improve the life of his people. Where do people get this fiction that its the politician who improve the lives of their people? People improve their lives. Politicians take credit for it. You're question, Haddad, is moot.

We can always establish it as fact. Would you care to show where a nations leaders improved the life of their people, while their people sat back and relaxed, Haddad?

You're right; people have to sit down while a president improves their lives.

Re: One Event That Changed Somalia Forever
I was watching an Alazeera documentary about the death of AbdiRashid Sharmarke and sadly we came the last 10 minutes of the program and it was in Arabic. My friend was translating for me and they said according to unclassified information, the CIA knew about Sharmarke's death before he was killed. They had some Bureau staff in Nairobi for interview. After, the show was done I tried to search for the unclassified memo online but to no avail.Alluring wrote:The assassination of Ali Sharmarke
