I think that's reasonable. The mans mother should keep out, so she doesn't muck things up.

I wouldn't actually mind having the girl's mother in next door "hearing her daughter moaning and screaming every night" and having breakfast with the mother in the morning watching her face when she's all embarrassed to look at me in the eye!
