Somali homeless rate will always be smaller than other ethnic groups because they are socialists. I heard a woman with many kids became a beggar in Somalia after her husband was killed. Her kids' tribe called an emergency meeting as soon as they realized the kids belonged to them. @ the end she was given monthly allowance until they forced a fellow tribesman to marry her. So the social fabric among Somalis will not allow a large number of homeless ppl.
true indeed.

financial, marriage, education etc when you going through the hard times its always good to be somali, because this social fabric we have allows us to easily help those in need  8-) and our tradition which is 80% diin is what keeps this going. :rose:

but times are changing :!: you may not notice it now but sooner or later it will dawn on you :P

what will happen is, this individualism will grow in the diaspora and they will become American, English etc it will start to be the norm to treat your follow somali like any other person or worse, it will become the norm to look directly into your parents eyes disrespectfully or worse, and what ever else your new found country find it normal to do you will do that or WORSE.

Somalia is on life support. the main resource behind this life support is NOT aid foreign, but the SOCIAL FABRIC binding the resourceful diaspora to the needy somali in Somalia, once this bond is broken, you will become disconnected and Somalia will ultimately die.

If I ever saw a somali person homeless, I would compelled to help them in some form.
I wouldnt take them to my house per-se. But I would feed him/her cloth him/her and find a way to help him/her earn a living. I can not be comfortable with myself if I watched it happen and did nothing for the person.
If you can help, you should help...thats my theory.

p.s.
Good thread voltage.

individualism doesn't mean to disrespect your parents

anyway there are PLENTY first generation somali kids who do the same

the social fabric is going to run out with the immigrants who came here

thats why somalia needs to get its shid together because kids born here are not going to send money to people they have never heard of, its the sad and honest truth

I was technically born in Somalia, but spend only a few weeks there before we immigrated so I can be considered second generation but I still send money back to Somalia (even though it's the interest from the bank I make on my own money which I send back home  )

lol dawa, you dont understand concept of first generation.

you're immigrate. not even make first generation.

me and fah are first generation because our parents came to this country, you also immigrate because you were born some where else.

may not culturly but it's a legal issue.

so you're still an arrival. your kids will be first generation.
that's why people asked for their birth certificate and there's a line for : place of birth for a reason.

FAH

adopting the culture of the US or UK its not only individualism, you are losing your Somali culture and this will ultimately result in bad mouthing your parents and such things, because that is the norms of the US and UK.

i dont understand how you and others deny US/UK short comings when you manifest in Somalis struggle and turmoil

you actually think you will be accepted as Americans ?? think about the Slave who came hundreds of years ago and build the US still have no real power as their masses lives in slums ghettos and there are systems created to keep them that way

stupit ass somali, this reminds me of a Canadian/somali Ruwaayad

my advice is to fix up, make a mill, get good education and take the first flight back  :P

Once there was this guy who had just come out of jail and stank and had no place to stay. He was at this Somali restaurant and was just sitting there and had nothing to do. One guy was like I'll buy you food and the guy was like no buy me cigarettes instead
