Murax,

I feel sorry for that city, how beauty and diverse it used to be back in the eighties and how it was treated for the last nineteen years.

That is what happens when people reject diversity and applaud for single clan based rebels. Good lesson for those willing to learn from it.

Mahdi,

In a way I understand the logic of Hawiye or anybody else. Everybody ran to a city and claimed it by force. You think Beledweyn was always a Xawaadle city? I have Reer Dalal Uncles that grew up there but today it is. Not blaming them either. Hawiye sida kale they captured Mogadishu and stayed. Marexaan ran to Kismaayo. In general though We need new multi clan cities as a capitol.

How about Baardheere? 8-)

Somalia tried and fell that path in 1977, the world’s reaction was swift then and so will it again if any Somali leader is crazy enough to take that path again.

Empower Somalia both at home and abroad first, and then make demands...peaceful demands on behave of Somalis in both Ethiopia and Kenya. Our action in 1977 should be enough to give up any brute force since it is because of it that Somalia is in the situation it finds it's self in today.

Somalia failed the 1977 war because of a diplomatic miscalculation. We placed all our eggs in the Soviet Basket.

The International Scene has changed greatly since. A Land-locked and impoverished Ethiopia serves no Geo-strategic purpose especially with a resurgent Somalia right next door.

Imagine if the Mengistu hasn't bended over to the Soviet Side in the 1970s. The outcome of the war would have been very different.

Murax,

Bardhere is good place so do Baydhabo, but traditionally capitals should be as far away as possible from neighboring countries’ borders incase of conflict, your capital were is your functioning government is should be free of air and land bombardment.

Mogadishu was never been in the past a one clan majority city it was originally found by Omani arabs and settled there for trade. Later Somalis came out the Bush and moved to its outskirts that is how the city become a city, but after 1960 everyone and every Somali clan moved because of its welcoming mood.

If you really asked the grownups that lived Mogadishu in the 1970s and 80s they will tell you amazing stories of how neighborhoods were tight together and intermarriages for different clans were common there, only late 1980s the city become the host of large immigrants coming from mudug and North Somalia that spread the virus of the Qabiil like a fire on wild grass.

Kismayo too is another harmless city that after nineties caught the virus badly

False. It actually serves a purpose of being a Christian wedge between two Muslim Nations (Somalia/Sudan) from dominating the horn. Ethiopia is the Wests only trusted ally in the region.

Murax,

You are right to an extent. But an internally weak and vulnerable Ethiopia does not any meaningful purpose. How long will the West continue to support the subjugation and domination of 45+ million Oromos and Somalis by 5 Million Tigreys?

Ethiopia is an artificial Nation and its inevitable fall is a matter of when.

They will because there Orthodox Christians in a Sea of Muslims. Doesn't make much sense but its just the way it is.

Basically if you were asked to design a fuctioning somalia, how would you go about it?

I don't mind if they move the capital. But no way should it be Hargeisa, the people there are far-far less open-minded than those who live in Moqadishu. If you think Moqadishu is hostile, than go see Hargeisa. If you don't speak exactely like them (accent wise etc) then prepare yourself for the worst. With that said, the city is bustling and they are doing big things masha-allah.

And I know what I'm talking about.

That's why we need a strong Somalia to crush this myth

Warsan,

Have you been to Hargeisa before and isn’t easy to act and talk like them

Hargeisa it is like 50 miles from the Border and very risky to put there a Capital, during the war Ethiopian MIG 23s used attack the city everyday Same thing in Baladweyne.

Advo, you speak like them, have no fear.

Mahdi, I don't speak like them, so I'll refrain from going there. Anywho all my family are now located in Xamar and South Somalia, the rest who are not, are related to those who they live amongst. (get my drift?)

Subahnallah, at the time of the heavy fighting in Xamar, my family moved (some) to Hargeisa. At all times they had to have a Reer-Waqooyi speaking person from their ciido with them! :x I was just so upset and bothered by that. I swear to you Xamar is not like that!

It is always like Xamarwi-Xamarwi........wallah I was so disappointed. :| Man, if you are Xamarawi you are more prone to being burgled. Oh well, C'est la vie.
