Whenever the colonialists talk about Somali tribes, they always have to mention the Issa. Simply because they were extremely powerful and terrified all who lived near them. This is just a little bit of information by colonialists regarding the Issa:

"The Ísa, probably the most powerful branch of the Somali nation, extends northwards to the Wayma family of the Dankali and southwards to the Gudabirsi...In character, the Ísa are childish and docile, cunning, and deficient in judgment, kind and fickle, good-humoured and irascible, warm-hearted, and infamous for cruelty and treachery. Even the protector will slay his protégé, and citizens married to girls send their wives to buy goats and sheep from, but will not trust themselves amongst, their connexions... A fierce and turbulent race of republicans, the Ísa own nominal allegiance to a Ugaz or chief residing in the Hadagali hills. He is generally called "Roblay"--Prince Rainy,--the name or rather title being one of good omen, for a drought here, like a dinner in Europe, justifies the change of a dynasty. Every kraal has its Oddai (shaikh or head man,) after whose name the settlement, as in Sindh and other pastoral lands, is called." (Richard Burton).

"The six above-named are the tribes with which the British authorities have most directly to deal. Of these the most capable in war is probably the Esa. The Gadabursi and
Habr Awal fear them, and it is only because the former are mounted and the latter have no horses that the balance of power is maintained." (Major H. G. C. S WAYNE, R.E.)

"The Gudabirsi will seldom sell their horses, the great safeguard against their enemy tribes, the Ísa and Girhi, who are all infantry". (Richard Burton).

"The Gadabursi are the traditional enemies of their neighbours, the Esa, but are less warlike." (Major H. G. C. S WAYNE, R.E.)

The Issas are said to have destroyed many of their enemies in war. The Afar or Danakil were plunged and looted, the Oromos in Ethiopia were completely routed and they crushed the Gadabursi cavalry in the great battle of Guerrisa, near the border of djibouti in the 18th century.

There is a silent war on the Afars: "Well planned military attack by contraband-led Issa-Somalis took place in Mille and Adaytu villages of the Afar Region which are situated some 530 km from the capital Addis Ababa between June 10 and June 12, 2008. The first attack was on health team from regional health bureau who was on vaccination campaign mission to Leedi Kebele, where two government employees were massacred cold-blooded and their vehicle was confiscated. The next raid occurred the same day in an attempt to invade the village of Adaytu, where 30 civilians were massacred and 26 wounded. More killing was also reported by the Ethiopian government army that attacked the Afars who were gathered to collect their dead. The Afar pastoralists are reported to be victims of current drought, systematic invasion policy of Issa -Somalis as well as irresponsible government army massacre."(Human Rights Watch).

Not really sxb have you read the Gadabursi-Issa wars in medieval times. It would make great bedtime stories. The Gudabuursi were actually very tough and wild back in the day. They only became civilized now.
