You could be right. The educated, the experienced, the intellectual, etc-- instead of manning up and fixing the problems, they fled.
if you had an ak-47 pointed at your head, what you do? wave your fantasy degree at the drugged-up kids and hope they all put down their guns or grab your fam & belongings and make a run for it? :?

Good point. However, among those who fled were members of the armed forces, police, etc. If they cared about the country, they could have come up with a solution, instead, each only cared about his family or closest relatives, and opted for the easy way; running.
first of all, the "somalia" project failed because it was doomed to fail. like i said before somalis have never been under one governing body before so forcing it on us was a big mistake. the fact that language and religion could not unite us is enough evidence of that. clearly somalis have different interests, cultural practices, outlooks on life etc. some people on here think these are just minor difference but why are we still fighting then?
The Europians did far worse matching making in other countries, where some of the people forced into the same country have zero relations be it cultural, faith, or language yet they survive relatively. There is always one dominant group that forces the rest to accept being ruled.

no one group has ever been strong enough to "dominate" all other somalis. it has never happened in our history. the only group that is strong enough to do that now is al-shabaab and the powers that be won't allow them to get that far.

20 years. Can't you people let it go? You'd think you would already have built a new life in your new country by now. Forget about Somalia and what was.

Think about here and now!

The diaspora was created after the fall so they could not have been responsible for the downfall.

The downfall maybe what's called "multifactorial" meaning having more than one cause.
This is often the case in complex diseases such as scizophrenia(not sure if spelling is correct) which may have multiple causes.

There are many genes involved, and depending on what copy you have, an individual maybe predisposed to have the illness. Then there are environmental factors that could effect promoters and enhancers of genes and turn on dormant genes.

The unique environmental factors in our case is Ethiopia, Kenya, and third party powerhouses such as the U.S. and former Soviet Union. The internal make up of the somali being a tribal society causes them to be suspicious of each other, with every move calculated on case by case bases. The ruling regime giving the impression of promoting the interest of one clan against the other, and heavy handed tactics used through the decades having its effect, a costly war causing the regime to be almost bankrupt, and aforementioned factors all partly contributed to the "downfall".

MSB AU had both negative and positive aspects but this is not an excuse for the entire destruction of Somalia to be blame at him .

There has been successful regime changes across the world like Uganda, Rwanda etc nothing has been recorded of the somali proportion.
Seems like folks from somalia never fought for independence to know what it is and preferred to be servitudes to the Colonialists.

Anyway Somalia was a land drawn by colonialists and had no historical connection. Northerners and Southerners who had different cultures were lumped together and those that had served the brutal colonialists became its leaders and run its parliament.

Thus it was a predicament that the country would one day collapse.
What were the different cultures between the north and south?
the culture for a starter is the interpretation of words some words in the south would be polite while in the north would be impolite.

The northerners don't like going in circles they would tell you things upfront while the southerners would tell you white while its black.

and many more.

There was an organized diaspora back then, much more connected to events in Somalia than today IMO, the USC and SNM were set up in the diaspora remember?

Although the starter of this thread is not a Somali and have different agenda than the one he asking, I am surprised after 20 years of chaos, a million Somalis perished in the civil war and 10,000 African troops sitting the capital of Somalia today, there are people still blaming the last government of Somalia, a government included all Somalis and had a Tumaal minority as vice president but at the same time defending for a rebel group that only accepts and recruits one single clan and rejects the rights of other Somali clans.

Up until now there is no single Somali person that can give me the answer of why the SNM, the SSDF and the USC consisted one single clan rebel movement against all Somalia, how come these rebel movements feel right and blame the government when they themselves see things through clan goggles. The answer was and still is these rebels never cared the rights of other Somalis other than looting their properties and intimidating.

Now days I do laugh when I see these topics, because some people will never admit the truth, since they either have chip on their shoulder or they feel weak and defeated if they admit the truth

BTW. Somalis have one culture those rear Camel in the outskirts of Djibouti have the same culture of those rear Camel in the outskirts of Isiolo a town in Central Kenya
