Re: The future potential export industries of Somalia
Somalia has also the longest Coastline in Africa (more than 3300 kilometers) and our very own Economical Exclusive Zone wich is 825,052 EEZ km2

Fishing
The Somali Fishing industry was established of foreign Soviet Aid. In the goverments effort of developing the fishing industry and also as a part of the Nomad resettling program for nomads displaced by the droughts 1974, the goverment did take some measures to reorginaze the traditional fishermen into Co-operatives. By providing modern fishing Equipment and training, the goverment established a New Company, the Somali fishing Company for deep sea fishing and the exporting to foreign markets. 21 Co-operatives where created and played a Major role in the 5 year-development plan and were given priority 1979 Budget.

Re: The future potential export industries of Somalia
The mining sector made a small contribution to Somalia's exports and economy in general. The country also had deposits of feldspar, iron ore, kaolin, limestone, natural gas, quartz, silica sand, tin, and uranium.
Sadly because of the ongoing conflict and the increase of corruption, the Somali goverment announced that the Mining sector only contributed 3% to the overall Economy. And in the end of the 80´s the sector seized to exist.

Re: The future potential export industries of Somalia
Im afraid i have also missed the big elephant in the room. Im talking about Somalia´s Telecom communications sector & Money transer services. It is so far the largest Somali sector that employs most Somali workers.
Here is some comments about the Somali Communication Industry:
Here is some comments about the Somali Communication Industry:
Also the important Indigeneous Industry is the Xaawalo Industry. Africa has never seen this before, yet the use of Somali Xaawalo by foreigners is increasing at a fast rate. Dahabshiil is the largest African money transfer business with 24,000 agent locations and branches worldwide. This undoubtly makes Dahabshiil a worldwide Competitor, employing many Somalis and improving the Somali economy.Somalia has the cheapest cellular calling rates on the continent, with some companies charging less than a cent per minute. Competing phone companies have agreed on interconnection standards, which were brokered by the United Nations funded Somali Telecom Association. Installation time for a land-line is just three days, while in neighboring Kenya waiting lists are many years long.

Re: The future potential export industries of Somalia
^ Those are services. Somalia needs industries. Today, the only functioning industries are in PL and a few in SL. The most skilled people in the south either fled the country or went to Bosaso. Today the largest commercial farms outside of the south are in Bosaso, and the owners are rich and skilled plantation owners from places like Kismayo. The south had a brain drain and all the talent fled north. The only group of skilled people in the south, who took over the abandoned farms, are the Jareer and Rahanweyn, but they lack networking and governing skills and cannot capitalize on their talent nor run administrations. The last talented/skilled people in the south are the ones with the authority unfortunately.
